Any reason why a regular WL who works a few days a week would want to also work a few shifts per week as a ML? Would she be able to legitimise her WL pay by being on PAYG at a massage parlour and paying tax on her income there?

Who said MLs all paid tax ?

No one... I'm just wondering if that is an option for them at some massage parlours... I've heard that all this cash in hand is sometimes quite a headache for some WLs and MLs as they can't easily bank it all without fear of questions being raised when they're paying zero tax. They clearly can't be too comfortable stuffing all that cash under their mattress either...

Hahaha ! You think they need to stuff all the cash they earn under the mattress ? ;) ;) ;)

You took that literally?!? The expression does not necessarily mean literally stuffing money under one's mattress...

I know at least one WL who I've gone out with numerous times over the past few months who always, ALWAYS, carries all her cash with her in her handbag 😳

The cash will end up in the Gucci or Chanel shop. Your CASH will end up in their GUCCI/Chanel bag. Now you have and empty wallet and an empty SAC🤡

She probably has more chance of NOT being on PAYG as an ML.

I know one WL who works only one shift per week as a Legit ML so her friends and family don't know her real job.

I know of about 5 ML that have jobs in regular retail shops, beauty shops, and hospitality and "top up" their income with cash from the day or two of ML work per week. Some of these girls have boyfriends and even husbands who have no idea what their other half is doing during the working day. They go home from work and say that they got their cash tips for the week, split the money so that some is declared to the partner and the rest they keep their own stash as well. No tax needed to be paid on the tips.

My WL friend in question absolute detests LV/Gucci/Chanel bags and thinks her coworkers who splash their cash on them are, well, idiots.

Instead, she has a giant handbag that she probably spent $100 on, and takes her entire life savings (talking more than $30K) in it in neat $100 bundles 😆

Completely agree with everything you say except the last sentence. The ATO clearly says tips are assessable income and therefore taxable. But of course in reality, no one is going to declare it.

I guess the question is what do WLs who earn $2-3K week (and who don't have family overseas that they could send $$$ to via say Western Union) do to keep all that cash safe other than carrying it around all the time on their person?

They can't bank it. They can't let it collect and buy a car or house without the unwelcome prospect of it raising questions.

I've known of some WLs who tried working a day or two a week as a waitress just so they could show they pay tax. But they all quit after a few weeks as they:

a) hated earning $13/hr or whatever pitiful amount it is they get there

b) realised there's no way that tiny amount of tax withheld could explain the thousands of $$$ she's minting from her WL work.

They haven't even heard about income tax returns that most of us have to complete and lodge with the ATO.

A few ML/WL I know/knew often are holding large sums of money, usually at their place and not unusual to be carrying 1-2k day in day out - nor is it for mates I know to be often carrying 1-2k

One once told me she had a very large sum stolen, as she kept it according to her in a cupboard. And stupidly she had customers who may have seen her put money away.

The ML’s I know they have bank accounts and also regularly send money O/S

Non issue for the few I know well enough .

I don't know about the other nationalities but for the Chinese there are transfer agents who you simply give money to and it magically appears in a bank account in China. The same goes in reverse.

The whole affair is a bit like buying coke. There's no shop front. You get introduced to the agents when you mention to a friend your need. The whole thing avoids tax issues in Australia and gets the money where the girls really care for which is back home.

Yep, that's exactly how it happens. 👍

I knew this is the case for the Chinese WLs and MLs who want to send money back home... I'd even say this is well known.

The more interesting question is how do the other ladies (who have no need to send $$$ back to their home country) deal with that annoying pile of $$$$$ that just keeps on growing bigger ;)

Can't bank the damn thing. Can't buy a house with it. Unless they're feeding a drug or gambling addiction, what does the poor WL/ML do??? ;)

Haha well I haven't personally got experience in the matter but in case you're asking for a friend perhaps consider opening a bubble tea store.

Small shop area since you don't really need anything apart from space to stand and hold the containers. Minimal staff on hand - there are shops with one person working. Lots of cash transactions. Don't bother franchising a big name since you'll need to pay the franchisor. If you really want to be careful, dump the tea down the drain regularly. :)

This is not that hard. Korean's and Thai's just use banking system. ATM deposit weekly of say $1 or 2K on a regular day. Keycard usage all week. Once a month send excess money O/S at Western Union or similar. All amounts less than 5K. Banks ask for TFN when account is open but that is direct deduct interest payments if not supplied. That amounts to zero because keycard accounts rarely pay anything. Banks or Western Union are not sub branches of ATO. If asked or questioned they would assume that person works, wages paid and employers look after Tax. So care factor is zero. I am not sure why these things bother you but it is not just ML or WL that have a lot of cash in their lives. GST was "discovered" to solve this problem and failed. Keep transaction under 5K and the bells don't go off and no one cares👍

This thread has really gone off topic but i'll continue, one time i was waiting in line for an ATM. The girl at the machine was in her 20s hot, south american and she was holding up the entire queue because she was depositing wads of $50 and $100 notes constantly. I think the machine only takes a certain amount before the card spat out again so she kept on redoing after like 10mins of waiting, i was 2nd in line i had enough and walked off.

Needless to say she probably doens't know she's going to be flagged by the bank for money laundering activities for depositing that much in one time...

I had a sneaking suspicion she was a ML because there's one directly across the road and a few within 100m of the ATM.
