You should've added the flight cost as well. $1200 for a return flight to BKK, that's $1203 for a plate of Pad Thai!

It's different if you're permanently moving to BKK as an expat. When you're paid in Thai baht then you can say that you're actually paying $3 for a plate of Pad Thai.

I just got back from a quick urgent trip to Hong Kong, prices relative to Sydney are the same as Pre-covid.

Australia in general is backwards compared to other developed countries like UK or US. This is probably due to the fact that high competition can drive down wages, therefore they try to keep it backwards here as much as they can.

When I was living in Singapore, the wages there isn't great for my career path and I'd have to work on average 12-16 hours daily, 6 days a week. You just don't have time for yourself although eating out is cheap. Punting is cheaper too in Geylang but the choices are mostly Southeast Asian girls - no Japanese or Korean like here in Sydney.

There are some pros in regards to Sydney not being a 24-hour city - we can enjoy higher wages and less working hours compared to other sister cities in the world.
