Because they need student visa to work here.

But don't think their uni is something like UTS, UNSW, etc.

most of them, they are studying diploma course in a small institution which cost <$2000/term.

I know many Asian WLs are on some sorta working visa, allowing them to stay in this country for 1-2 years...I rarely met "proper" Uni student nowadays (like UNSW, UTS etc). Back to 2003, 2004 (when i got off my boat) etc plenty of uni girls, mate

I don't know how others define "Uni Student".
But if we disregard the age (when someone say Uni Student, then she's 20-23), then all of 5* Malay/Singapore are all Uni Student.

They are all studying bro, whether it's diploma, bachelor, english school, etc.
Milo, Loren, Chilli, Hebe, Annie, FeiFei, Hayley, etc.

For the Koreans, I think most of them are here on working holiday visa (that's what they told me).

Most of Asian WL, are here on Student visa.
So, depends on how you define "uni student", they are at least go to study.

The requirement for Student visa is they have attendance level of at least 80%.

Well, it's actually not that strict, but they still have to get some attendance mark. You can't go on without attending class and just work here. There is no way your visa won't get a problem from the department of immigration.

They come to Australia to earn money LEGALLY.
If they go to UNSW, UTS, Macquarie, or any of those big names available. They won't earn money.

6 months in those big names cost you upward of $8000 for international student.
Compare it to the cheapos they paid, +-$1500/term.
And on the plus side, if you study at those cheapos, the tutor won't pay much attention to your attendance.
And the assignments are easy.
And if you are studying in those big names, it's all serious study. If it's F, then it's F, and you have to repeat.
And if your mark starts to deteriorate so much, then comes the immigration telling you to leave Australia (i.e. student visa is cancelled)


I won't go in detail here.
It's none of our business anyway. I just know too much about the industry.


But just remember, most of them are Uni Student.

In the US, which is where I used to live, we refer to any kind of educational endeavour beyond high school, whether it be, university, trade college, community college, etc... are all put under 1 umbrella term - college. So in this sense, most youngish WL are college students of some sort. But mainly at small scale colleges not 'uni' students, as you specifically state. Mainly to learn English. I know this because a WL once told me, lol.
But a uni student? You'd be hard pressed to find one. But they exist. They generally have good English. Bad English 'students' are actually college students learning Engrish. :)

And some are located too far from the usual punting areas.

So how could one find WL from 1 of those uni.
Studying in of those uni, is a proof that an overseas student has good financial condition.
Who would work as WL when they are in good financial condition?

Let's say suddenly one of the student's family is unable to support them.
When that rare occurence happen, the lady still have choices, she can go back home and stop studying or she can work as WL to earn significant money and pay for her education and living cost.
Well, I'd bet most of them would choose to go back and stop studying.

I think, uni student or college student , who knows...? If the WL say ," i am on UNSW or i am college ,... Once you listen the answer what will you do..? Will you trust them ?
