Will this return ?

Do punters still read the forum anymore ?
There are hardly any posts these days, just lots of bumped advertising threads in AR and GT sections.

On the train this morning I logged onto aus99 and clicked on the 'whats new' feature - 20 pages of porn download avertisements (including the usually selection of rape and family incest clips!) a few shop threads and only a single user generated thread (this one!)

I also wonder about the level of activity. Sometimes there are large numbers of users online but the majority seem to be 'bots'.

I have noticed a drop off in real punter traffic lately, over the last week or so.
I steer clear of the whats new feature due to all the video etc spam.
But now it is really hard to find real punter posts and threads in the GT and AR sections due to advertising.
Maybe people are sick of it ?

I thought the punting slowed down due to the cold weather and rise of sex buddy sites such as seekingarrangement?

or once punters have a regular they stop posting as there is nothing more to add

That's normal !

Most people don't remain hyper active posters for too long, but once they posted, they remain behind the scene as observers and respond every now and then. That's why there aren't too many members over 1000 posts. Then new and keen posters will emerge like waves ! ;) ;) ;)

Brother CL,

You yourself have slow down in posting new threads !!

May be you need to keep it up !!

ps. I do my bit in the RnT pictorials - I think at least 10 new posts/photos everyday, more, if I found a series of good stuff. but you know, I don't like end to end porn, they got to be beautiful, classy, interesting and funny sometimes!

I hope they do, especially on a marketing point of view, it's important for the website to show there are regular high visitation to the site. the current record of 624 users live on site at one time is the best form of advertising and if the volume of live users are always in the high 300-400 marks, it's a sign of the popularity of AUS99.

It will be counter productive if Admin don't bring that back.

Just my 624 cents

Cheers

The forum was down from around midnight to 1am last night for manitenance.
When the forum came back this function was gone.
Not sure if the maintenance was to remove this function or maybe it was to fix something else and they removed this function by mistake.
It would be nice to get an explanation from Admin.
Or better still just restore this function.

Oops, just noticed this post from Admin posted at 12.40 am last night:
http://forum.aus99.com/showthread.php?34973-Server-performance-Tuning&p=380608#post380608

Seems like maintenance had to be done to fix connectivity problems due to increased use of the forum.
Contrary to the view that the forum is slowing down, it seems like the opposite is the case ... seems like its getting bigger and bigger.
I agree with Ahlungor that it's in Admin's own interest to show off usage stats, so I assume this function was removed by mistake and will be restored ASAP.

Yeah noticed it was gone after the maintenance yesterday too. I just assumed that the feature was part of contributing to the so-called connectivity problems, so perhaps removing it was one of the "tune ups" they have applied. The green/grey dots next to the names in the posts are still there so we can still tell who's online to a certain extent.

Good guess !

I've got a brief explanation from Admin just like that !

The forum went into meltdown due to high volume traffic in peak hours, not low as speculated ! So it was one measure to free up some functionalities, but I've suggested to them to lock out the video spams in peak hours instead !

Good suggestions Brother Wil,

If the video spams are revenue generating, then I have no objection of them being there, I do enjoy watching the DVD covers from the Japanese AV..............lol

But if they are flooding the general connectivity of the website then it will be counter productive, any restrictions on them posting thousands of threads on a continuous basis will be good. I actually found out that about 10 pages, they are repeating themselves anyway.

But please bring back the "who's on line function !!" I always like to know who's reading my RnT thread while I was posting the photos............haha

Cheers

Hi all members,

Please refer to http://forum.aus99.com/showthread.php?34973-Server-performance-Tuning&goto=newpost

We have more and more active users in the aus99 forum.
They are either Login user who make or reply post, OR they are even just guest who simple come and read your useful reports.

From server statistics, we have more than 500-600 different IP users during peak hours which increased a lot when compared to 200 two years ago.

We have been reported and also we noticed that there is serious performance issue during peak hour.
Either Time out page;
Or Database Error;
Or can't login.
It is all related to the heavy traffic.

IT Team has been investigated and applied tuning on forum, server and database.

We have disable the who's online section because the forum company told us that, that section will slow down the response time and thus poor the performance for a heavy load forum

Thats why we would like to disable it and monitor tonight during peak hours and see how is it going.

We will put it back tomorrow if all looks good tonight.

Thanks for the support and understanding.

IT'S BACK !! Thanks Admin !

Yes, it is back, but I noticed that the list of active users on line is Not in alphabetical order anymore, may be it is in the order of log in time, but I think alphabetical order is good if I just want to see if Travelmate and Wilisno are on line for example !

The main forum menu also showing (back) the number of users viewing each major section such as Sydney General Talk, Brisbane After Report etc.

But the function of showing who is one line in each individual thread is still out: for example, in my RnT thread, I used to be able to see that there are say 5 members and 10 guests viewing ! Not any more, please reinstate this function please.

Thanks and regards,

Cheers
