If it makes you feel any better herpes is only a skin disease. It goes away completely and comes back randomly.
When it comes back you should abstain your self from any sexual activity until it goes away.

People here have suggested both pubic lice ('crabs') and herpes as the cause, both of which are probably incorrect due to a longer time before symptoms appear.
And the same goes to pretty much every STI I know.
Things that usually cause skin irritation that fast are allergic reactions (to skin lotions etc.).
