View Full Version : Complaint Rudd's PNG solution has given the boat people a new address: Saibai Island QLD 4875!!

The Qld minister for local government was on Alan Jones this morning stating the facts why the Rudd government 's press release on the run policy for illegal boat people/ asylum seekers at PNG will be a complete failure because he is bringing them within a dangerously close distance to Australian soil:

The closet point between PNG and Australia is only 4 km! The place is called Saibai island Queensland 4875 and between the island and mainland Australia - well , you can walk across in low tide !!!

Don't listen to me, listen to David Crisafulli:

http://www.2gb.com/article/alan-jones-david-crisafulli

So what will be stopping the boat people for making that final 4 km - they can swim, or canoeing both Olympic sports...................lol but this is dead serious and no laughing matter, once they are on Australian soil, they can just walk into any regional airport in far north Queensland and board a plane to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne within hours, no checking of passport !!

Just my 4 cents !!

May be they are better off to be left in Naru or where ever and from. A distance !!

We need to say No to these garbage on September 7 !!

LOL guys. It's a 150km "walk" from Saibai Island to mainland Australia, assuming that you can walk in the ocean. The difference between Christmas Island and Saibai Island is that only one of them has a detention centre. Now where do you think people want to go?

This thread and many of its ilk really go along way to demonstrate how suckered we are as a society by mainstream media. Seriously.

Most asylum seekers come by boat?

REALITY: Statistics from 2008 showed at least 13 asylum seekers arrive through Australian airports daily, more than 32 times the number of boat people supposedly ''flooding'' across our maritime borders in that year. A total of 4768 ''plane people'', more than 96 per cent of applicants for refugee status, arrived in that year on legitimate tourist, business and other visas - compared with 161 who arrived by boat during the same period.

REALITY: According to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, the number of settlers - people entitled to permanent residence, including people arriving in Australia on humanitarian programs - between July 2010 and June 2011 came from more than 200 countries and totalled 127,460.
Most were born in one of the following four countries:
• New Zealand (20.2 per cent)
• China (11.5 per cent)
• United Kingdom (8.6 per cent)
• India (8.3 per cent)

So what does that mean? Fuck the stories about boat people - we should be stopping the arrivals of Kiwis on Planes. :P

This is the candidate you meant ??

A LIBERAL candidate who came to Australia as a refugee has condemned social media attacks after he pledged to stop boats.

John Nguyen, who is standing in the Victorian seat of Chisholm, and his family were resettled from a refugee camp after the Vietnam War.

They did not arrive by boat but he was criticised on Twitter after telling voters the Coalition would "secure our borders and, once again, stop the boats."

"It's genuinely disappointing that people hide behind social media to viciously attack me and my background," he said.

"I am proud of my heritage. In 1980 I arrived in Australia from Vietnam via a UNHCR refugee camp in Malaysia. The Australian Liberal Government accepted me as a genuine refugee.

"As the Liberal candidate for Chisholm, I am proud to be part of Tony Abbott's Liberal team that will restore the border protection policies that worked.

"Only these proven policies will ensure that genuine refugees in camps around the world are given the same opportunity that I was."

One Twitter user asked: "This Lib candidate in Vic seems so (sic) have forgotten what it was like to come here as a #refugee himself?"

I don't know much about Australian History, but didn't Captain Cook also first arrived onto these shores by boat ??

If people here are so concerned about illegal immigrants maybe they should probably stop subsidizing illegal immigration by patronizing Asian sex workers, probably 90% of them are violating their visa conditions by working here.

But the Asian WL and ML are not using up out social benefits, Medicare and Centrelink!

I am happy for them to stay and serve this great country !!

A lot of aus99 seem to acquire their political opinions while flicking through the front section of the tele in search of the adults classified section and sports pages. and yes, the irony is not lost of me that a fair proportion of aus99 users are steadfast in their opposition to asylum seekers, despite the fact they have only recently settled in australian themseles in search of a better life

This is a common human "thing", in that you want to be the last one to sneak in and then close the gates behind you ...
Makes you feel special and doesn't let the place go to ruin, so to speak ...

Well, I don't know about other people, I had a residential visa granted to me before I landed in Eagle Farm in the 80's. I have tax taken out from my very first pay and have been paying my fair share of tax ever since. Everything I got today I have worked very hard for, I have never taken anything from the government personally unless you count the medicare benefits of which I believe is covered by the tax I paid anyway.,

Of course my children all got their usual benefits like education from the government growing up but they were born here and they are as Aussie as any other citizens of this country.

But we can not have an open door policy and take in all these boat people who came here via illegal channels. It's costing us too much and we simply can not afford this !

I don't know who they are and what are their circumstances, but the government figures shows that more than 80% of the boat people whom eventually was granted refugee status to stay in Australia are still on full Centerlink benefits after 5 years of obtaining their status - so how long do you think we can continue to support these people when they are either not willing to work, or has no skills or whatever the reasons. While we can't even take care of our own elderly, youths and under privileged citizens ??

Just my two cents

Cheers
