Bros,

I am planning a short trip to Melbourne soon, and wanted your advice on following:

1. What's the best way to get the cheapest flight/accommodation packages? I checked flight centre, but thinking that because it's so mainstream, there's gotta be other 'smaller' and therefore 'cheaper' middle men?

2. What's good to do there apart from punting? I hear the casino is a sight to see? But do they have other activities, like zoos, good dining places etc?

3. What are the shops like there? Any recommendations?

To admin: please don't move this to the Melbourne section. I've checked there and I can only hear the crickets :)

1) Travel "packages"are not really viable if you are travelling solo. They load up "single supplements" onto the prices. Best bet is to book your flight on line directly with Jetstar, Virgin or Tiger. Use hotel booking sites like Agoda to find accom within your price range. If you want cheap there are a few places around the $100 mark near Southern Cross station.

2) Lots to see and do there, depending on what your interests are. There are plenty of tourist info websites you can Google.

3) Likewise with punting. It's not too hard to do a bit of your own leg work.

Of course Melbourne has a Zoo, there's a giant stinky poofter Rat who lives there too, say hello to him for me and i guarantee you, he will pop out of the cage and bend you over... duga duga duga......

When it comes to dining places or coffees, Chapel Street Toorak will be the best place for you, there's a good nightlife there....... I'm serious this time no joke!!..

2. Crown Casino is much bigger than The Star, even you are not gambling person, worth having a look. Also lots of nice restaurants and nightclubs. Went to a burger place called Merrywell and I thought their burger was one of the best! There are lots of nice laneway bars/cafes in the city if you like small bars.

3. There are many shops in South Melbourne area. Not too far from Casino. I think quality and quantity are better in Sydney in general but who knows...

Good luck!

The Colosseum in Tope St is within walking distance of casino and there are a few other shops in the area. I saw a great girl called Danielle but that was a while ago. A huge line up at that shop and the facilities are very nice as well.
