Gents,

Going to be in Beijing for a week.
Need advice on a good area to stay. Should be central but in an area with bars, clubs, and whores!

All advice welcome, as well as any general Chinese punting advice.

I phoned in a girl last time which was awesome, but I was also approaced to "practice my English" by girls in shopping malls during the day. What is the story with them?

Phil

Hey Phil
Would love to join you there, if not for work committments

Am worried about police raids and being arrested, maybe an illogical thought

If you strike it lucky with a few places that don't mind foreigners, a group of us may have to go over next time!

I went to China in about 2000 I think. I fell for the art scam (dooh), but this is worst in the real hotspots - Beijing, shanghai and others.

Outside in the countryside, I found the Chinese wonderful people.

I went to do the dawn climb at tai shun (sp?) and met lovely people - one family gave me one of their 1000 year eggs, and when myself and another Chinese tourist (who I just met on the bus) were almost mugged (they were after my watch), other chinese people came and helped us with no expectation of anything in return.

unless you can speak mandarin i think its pretty hard to find anywhere and scamming is bound to happen.Be cautious!

Maybe try the Beijing Happy Massage web site to choose places to visit. I haven't been to Beijing but there are similar sites for other cities and its worked well for me on those occasions. Can't hurt to learn to recognise the chinese characters for massage 'an mo' ie 按摩 because in mainland china sometimes the signage is only in chinese. Another tip is if you find a place avoid touts standing outside handing out flyers- they often get a cut for bringing people in off the street. Best sign of this is if they insist on escorting you to the shop reception area.

Can't stress enough to avoid anyone approaching you in the street talking english, especially in the touristy areas like Wang Fu Jing avenue. There's no immediate danger in talking to them but invariably scammers will try to lure you to a tea house, restaurant, shop or bar where you will get hit with a massive bill. Most chinese people with good intentions will be shy of foreigners and won't approach you in the street initiating contact.

Sounds worse than it is but some caution is needed.

I think it is called That's Beijing, or something similar, lots of ads for SPA/ Massage joints.
All Sex joints. Just catch a cab to place, most are in a apartment block, so you might need a passport to get through the gates in to the apartment, just say you are visiting friend.
I only tried one place, and it was pretty good, but this is many years ago, so things might have changed.

Good luck, have fun, and play it safe :)

I think this masslin is shonky. Only joined yesterday and has 5 posts requesting info on Bejing,Manilla, Dubai,Hong Kong and Guangzhou where the last posts are up to 6 months old. Shit I hope it is not the reincarnation of that fuckwit harmony who has thankfully departed after 600 plus senseless posts in 6 weeks

I've tried this site when I was in China last time. Its a bit hit and miss. Some of the reviews are spot on and some are just full of crap

Masslin posts similar on other sites and has been banned from one site.

He seems to be in many places at about the same time, offering advice about locations seemingly everywhere. Must be a master punter flying all over Asia and the Middle East with unlimited funds or, as you said, a reincarnation or perhaps someone with a similar modus operandi.
