was looking into the new Opal cards recently and noticed that you can view all the trips you've taken on it online. The old geeza paranoia set in and I realized that bros with wives and gf better be careful cuz they can see where you've been going and when.

Just a heads up for bros out there

Very good points brother x11!

Pretty sure the Opal card will be heading the same direction and diversity similar to the Optopus card in Hong Kong

八達通

And we are behind that convenient and technology only by 20 years.

The Optopus card is now used almost like a credit card, just wave and go, not only on all public transports, road tolls, parking stations,, 7 Eleven, etc, basically any shop with a terminal can be used. And you can top up any time at the MTR (train) stations which are everywhere.

Parents now don't give pocket money to children anymore, they gave them a charged up card.

But yes, all the spending can be traced!

So why did I get off to Newtown, Stanmore and Rockdake ????? haha

as soon as i figured this out i gave my opal to my missus and went back to the old magnetic stripe ticket, don't want to be asked 'why are you getting off at marrickville on work days?'

even have to be careful about where i'm withdrawing cash too, cos atm locations turn up and then need to siphon off 50 here and there

now i'm paranoid about my kids playing with my phone and seeing aus99 on my browsing history so only browse aus99 at work

biggest fear is running into people i know just outside of shops

I'll be sticking with the paper tickets. opal doesn't work out cheaper for me. been waiting 20 yrs for a similar service to octopus but still unfeasible to use it.

When you browse on your phone, or even your computer at work or at home you should use "incognito mode".
Google Chrome browser and I believe also Firefox have a "incognito mode". You will see something that says "New Incognito Window" google it to find out more details.

What this does is it leaves no history about what sites youve been looking at.

Its sometimes known affectionally as the "porn mode" haha

You will be able to buy an unregsitered Opal card from shops, same as paper tickets.

You won't be able to see on line what transactions have taken place, but each time you use it the screen will show your balance, or you can go to the retailer and check and top it up again.

if you're worried about being tracked better ditch that phone in your pocket!

iphones can even track how far you walk with them after the battery dies:

although if your wife can figure out how to extract all the location data from your phone then you deserve to get busted :grimace:

For now the people or company who made opal cards. Railcorp got nothing to do with opal cards.

Spare a though for poor old Joe Tripodi who turned his phone off to make a "secret" trip to Wellington, then they busted him by analysing his GPS unit !!

Eventually you'll be able to buy prepaid opal cards. Just get a second one.

Although if she's smart she'll see only one way on your first card with no return trip ;)

Take my words for it, pay CASH for everything !!

And one last thing: Only withdraw cash from your usual ATM's like near work or home ..................lol

Good luck
