View Full Version : General talk Thread viewing numbers query

Hi guys,

This is just a quick question to ask if anyone has any idea about the percentage relationship between a threads' views vs the actual number of individuals who have clicked on it.

Eg, a lot of the view count is the same person or people accessing the thread multiple times.

Google analytics does have a programme that breaks down the figures between new and returning visitors. I know, because I used it for my wildly successful if short lived web log Sextuslogus (albeit only successful because it piggybacked on all the eyeballs that visited this site first - ha ha!)

But is there a programme here that works out who are unique visitors to a thread and who are returning to the individual threads? I doubt it. But if not, does anyone have a reasonable rule of thumb about the breakdown?

eg, say a thread has a 1000 views. Are half of that figure unique individuals and the other half returnees to the thread? Or one quarter of them - or two thirds?

I feel aus99 might have some breakdown of this traffic in order to sell to advertisers.

Now THE REASON I AM ASKING THIS is so I know how to direct my posts and appeals for Jenny. How many new people I am reaching, and how many are just interested but uncommitted readers and how many are just serial clickers on her thread, the usual suspects who are active posters here.

Her thread is being bumped up regulary, but it needs new information to feed it properly, which I will provide soon, but fellow members of the forum will be able to help my direction if they have any idea to help with my query.

Don't know what difference does it make, the best place to advertise is the place with the highest traffic ! Whether it's from people who click on the same thread or not doesn't make it less desirable.

What good is it to advertise on places where no one clicks on ?

Although I check the site daily, I just noticed the thread for Jenny last night. The first page is always occupied by all shop advertisements.
I hate it a lot!

I just need to get an idea whether I am trying to persuade the same people who are very difficult to be persuaded and are just reading the thread for - well I couldn't work out how anyone could read the thread and not want to help - entertainment?

I'd just like to know if anyone knows if I am reaching new people or not. Is there a rule of thumb on the ratio of thread views vs the lesser amount of new people opening it?

eg 1000 thread views = approxumately 250 people, 400 people? does anyone have any idea? Or is it just 100 people multiply clicking that makes up the thousand views.

The reason being is that I now have some figures for the specific number of people who helped Jenny. Ergo, I can work out from that how many unique visitors to the thread I have yet to persuade. This will influence what I say.

There is a function with this forum which had been disabled for a long time but I believe is what you need to see brother Sextus:

The forum used to show how many viewers are currently viewing each particular thread, shown at the bottom!

I knew because I used to look at that all the first with the Snow Lotus thread, loved it when there were like 21 viewers on line viewing at the same time. For example it would show say 12 viewers: Ahlungor , Wilisno , Travelmate , Sextus, Rooter, Eureka and 6 guests !!

If admin reinstate this function again, your questions would have some answers !!

Cheers

Ps. Go and have a look at auxxxxreview , and you'll know what I mean !

As I said above, what difference does it make even if you know ? Where else can you get the most attention as the top lines of General Talk ? Melbourne Forum ? You've done that already, there you can be sure there's no repeat viewers ! ;) ;) ;)

See Escort's post ? Frequent bumpings on General Talk is the only way to go, not less frequent !

It doesn't hurt to put one extra on the Brisbane Forum though.

I know what you are saying wilisno, it is logical. But I'm a hard figures kind of guy, it helps me to know the nuts and bolts of it. If I could arrive at least at an approximate percentage of total individuals viewing (not counting repeat views more than once) versus individuals who have contributed then I'll know better what to say. I just developed this idea I might only be largely talking to the same 100 guys over and over! :grimace: It is a motivational thing as I do put a lot into my posts on that thread.

If no-one has a ready breakdown on these figures, well, I'll just have to forge on regardless.

Still the same question ! What difference does it make ???

You can't post anywhere else for better result, and you can't do anything differently even if you know the breakdown, so what's the point ?
