Was chatting with a mate about this - is there anywhere that keeps a public register of places that have actually gone through the process of becoming a licensed brothel? If someone actually wanted to check if the place they were going to was actually licensed, how would they go about this?

The local councils don't publish this information - well, not quite true, it's available if you hunt through council meetings and minutes and other documentation or review EPA applications, but there doesn't appear to be any easy reference point or site....

I'm sure most of us don't care about the formalities, but it's an interesting curiosity of the NSW setup that even if you did, there's actually no easy way to find out! In other states where there is regulation (Vic for example) there is usually a register or a requirement for the brothels, advertisers or workers to post their registration details. Especially when you consider the alleged corrupt council workers and the Mr Duff's of the world have such interest in exposing unlicensed places, but don't point out the anomaly about how they find out that they are unlicensed...

I think the easiest way to find out is to ask Licker :)

Some signs that you are not in a licensed place:
- an agency tells you to go to a hotel, then when you get there they ask you to go up the road to another place
- you are in a massage shop that says no sex and they provide extras

Seriously though it would be nice to have a list somewhere, not sure it would make much difference though

Id prefer to go to a licensed joint, they should make then show it at the front & rear door. Talking about rear doors, I prefer to just going to places that have a rear entry, discrete.

Councils may not have published lists specifically for brothels (or any other type of business), but you should be able to get information for specific addresses.

No wonder the Council will always have a losing battle and have to pay people to have sex in these places

Its in the too hard basket

The whole set up just gives endless work for private investigator companies and journalists haha

Germany seems to have whole high rise buildings devoted to the industry.
That way you know where the businesses are, and who is employed there
Of course they have illegal businesses too, but the legal businesses seem to be loud and proud
