Maybe Miranda Kerr had a wager, she backed the dogs & if they won she had to suck em, if souths won he had to buy in :shout:

He has been our major sponsor for a couple of years through Crown, which does not open for an estimated Five yrs,or Consolidated Press Holdings Group, so hes already thrown in several million dollars through one of these consortiums, even though he was born into a shit load of money, I believe he has proved himself a winner, his father Kerry was both a mad RABBIT and was a very close friend to Russel Crowe, Crowe and Packer already share business interests, I see Packer buying into Crowes vision for The Rabbitohs and the future of sporting brands, Packers a winner, Souths for now are winners again, with much bigger things to come on and off the playing field...

RUN RABBIT RUN

Hope this answers a small percentage of your question, " WHY FUCKIN NOW"

PS: These talks have been ongoing for about 10 months, seeing the disruption this could cause The Mighty Red and Green on its march towards GF success this season, it was decided to be kept very close to those directly involved in the business decision......

PSS: So to draw a long bow, I would say through his massive investment through sponsorship over the past couple of years and being involved in purchase negotiations for the last ten months it is fair to say that Packer jumped on board before we won the comp..............

Just Saying.............

Its easy to knock a high achiever in this country. In Australia it is called the "Tall Poppy Syndrome"

The facts say Packer was involved in preliminary negotiations to take over Peter Holmes a Courts share of the Rabbitohs even before the 2014 NRL season began
It was on 19 January 2014 The Daily Telegraph reported that there was speculation that Packer was to buy out Peter Holmes à Court's 37.5% share of the South Sydney Rabbitohs ownership, with Packer becoming Russell Crowe's partner in the venture

Im a fan of any successful Australian, be it a charity worker, a sportsperson, or a business person
If it wasnt for Packer, we would have overseas companies owning all our entertainment industry
Packer, an Australian, owns Crown Casino in Melbourne, and I am happy money and jobs will stay in Australia as a result

Sure, Packer made a lot of mistakes, includng the collapse of communications company One.Tel, which cost him cost A$327 million
In addition, in 2009 Packers company lost US$250 million in failed casino investment company in the US, Fontainebleau Resorts. and his company also paid US$242 million for a stake in Station Casinos which is now considered almost worthless

On the other hand, Packer has successfully added further gaming assets in Macau, in partnership with Lawrence Ho, the son of Dr. Stanley Ho, through the SEHK and NASDAQ-listed Melco Crown Entertainment
In Macau, MCE has two premium properties, City of Dreams and Altira Macau, it operates the Mocha Clubs, and has a 60% equity interest in Macau Studio City, and integrated resort project on Cotai
In the Philippines, MCE, through its 69.3% owned subsidiary, Melco Crown (Philippines) Resort Corporation, has an interest in a consortium that will develop and operate an integrated resort in Manila

As well, in December 2012, Packer and producer-filmmaker Brett Ratner formed a joint venture, RatPac Entertainment
The firm produces independent films and co-produce big-budget films with a major studio.
RatPac and Dune Entertainment formed a film investment vehicle, which in September 2013, entered a multi-year, 75-film co-financing partnership with Warner Bros

The first film financed by RatPac was a major success
Gravity, a space thriller directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, generated the strongest ever October opening in the US and took box office receipts of more than US$100 million in its first five days
"We all know it (producing movies) is a high-risk business and when your first movie starts like this all you can say is 'thank you', Packer said

I say lets support our high achievers, and acknowledge their financial wins often benefit our economy and us as a country

Haha guys, Totally agree. Gravity was a silly movie. The space effects were clever, but the rest was pretty boring

Great works there brother Harmony!

I knew JP was losing a lot of money over at Las Vegas - not gambling like his old man but investing ! Like billions ! But Macau was a gold mine for him, won it all back in doubles and triples !!

I didn't know any of the history between the Packers and South but the Crown is a major sponsor for South for all to see, so for JP to buy in and be a part owner is only natural !!

Does it mean now we will be seeing Miranda Kerr in the boxes too ........haha

More Hollywood glamour is only good for the Game !

Hi Brother Ahlungor
In October 2006, Packer’s team finalised a deal to sell Channel Nine, internet portal ninemsn, and a 51 per cent stake in Carsales - to private equity group CVC Asia Pacific for $4. 5 billion

Did he spend the rest of his life on his large ship, crusing the oceans and living the life of an oil sheik ?

No ! He worked. Now James Packer has an an assessed net worth of A$7.19 billion in 2014

Some other interesting facts:
Packer purchased a 25 per cent stake in internet employment company SEEK for $33 million in August 2003. He sold most of his stake six years later for $440 million
“SEEK was my favourite company of anything I ever owned,’’ Packer said later

My point is, this guy can do business well. Sure he was trained well, and he had his fathers company and wealth to use, but its easy to burn up all that money with nothing to show

The guy is a legitimate businessman in his own right, and I think most of his critics would probably instead just be lounging around in Tahiti, The French Riviera etc etc if they had that money, rather than working a day in their life !

Brother Ahlungor, what would you do with the $7.19 billion that James Packer made when he sold his fathers business interests in 2006

Work full time like Mr Packer, or be a full time tourist ?

Peace

I probably would have given $7 billion of that away in genuine charity works - but I don't think I have the depth and the business mind to effectively and efficiently manage such a big amount of money - will need to set up a charity trust and hire some good people to manage and grow the funds so that the charity works can be on going.

I think the remaining $0.19 billion is enough money for me and my family to live comfortably.

For the record, my money will mostly go to the Westmead Hospital, the Leukaemia Foundation, the Cancer Council of Australia, All the Children's Hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses.

Cheers
