View Full Version : General talk Asian Cup Quarter Finals: Australia v China and more ...

So have any bros been following the Asian Cup?
Bro A usually puts up a post about major sporting events but nothing this time so I thought I would start up a thread.
Well we are at the serious end of the tournament now with some very interesting Quarter Finals coming up.

Australia v China
This will be a great clash and no doubt some divided loyalties among a lot of bros on this forum.
Its a shame it's not being played in Sydney
With Sydney's huge Chinese population they would have filled Stadium Australia easily.
For a country with such a huge population and a very well funded and popular domestic league China has been very disappointing at the international level - only one World Cup appearance in 2002 and not much success in the Asian Cup. Maybe this is the break through tournament for China?
Prediction Australia 2 - China 1

Japan v U.A.E
This one is in Sydney and I will try and get there just to perve at some hot Japanese girls.
Should get a pretty big crowd there with so many Japanese traveller in Sydney this time of the year.
Prediction Japan 2 - U.A.E. 0

Iran v Iraq
This isn't a football game - this is war!
A lot of history between these two countries, so should be a fiery encounter.
And most of the action will be in the crowd rather than on the pitch.
Expect some massive security and nervousness if anyone sets of some flares and fireworks ;)
Prediction Iran 1 Iraq 0

South Korea v Uzbekistan
Another game that will generate a lot of interest among the bros on this forum.
South Korea will start favourites but the Uzbeks are capable of creating an upset.
South Korea's German Coach Uli Stielike was a hard nut in his playing days and known as "the stopper"
He has fashioned a team that plays the same way he did - all the team in deep in defence defending the goal to the last man. Sth Korea still haven't conceded a goal in this tournament.
Prediction Sth Korea 0 - Uzbekistan 0 (Korea to win in extra time or the penalty shootout)

Just one observation of this tournament.
The organisers of this tournament are totally clueless.
There is a huge Chinese population in Sydney and a sizeable Korean one, but not a single game Group Stage featuring China or Sth Korea was scheduled in Sydney.
And why so many games and finals in Canberra and Newcastle.
And no Semi Finals in sports crazy Melbourne!

Thanks brother rooter for starting this thread, I must say I have been over exposed by all the Crickets and now tennis !

The only match I watched live was that stupid game we played South Korea where Ange rested the entire match winning forward line !

How can you rest Cahill, Kruse and Leckie and expected to win the group and avoid meeting Japan until the final ! He treated the opponent with contempt and paid the price accordingly !

Mind you, with a bit of luck, we could have still won or draw that match and got out of jail ! Wasn't to be !

You are right, my loyalty is now divided on that match between China and the Socceroos !

My money is on the Aussie but China is on $6.50! I may have an each way bet as well - but wait, that's only for 90 min! If they go to extra time, all bets are lost ! Well I can't bet on all win lose and draw can I ???

Ps, if we beat China, I'll have enough money to see Monica .........haha

Excellent result for the Socceroos last night.
The Chinese fought hard and defended well, but the Socceroos relentless pressure finally paid dividends.
Cahill's goals were absolutely world class. What are we gonna go when he retires after this tournament?
Next up a Semi Final against the Blue Samurai!
Bring it on!

It's Timmy Cahill 2, the Great Wall of China 0 !!

Is Cahill not our greatest Socceroos or what !!

Come the moment come the Champ! Absolute Legend !

And don't forget he did scored our first and second ever World Cup final goals in Germany - and yes ! You remember well - against the Japanese !

Bloodily hell, the game will be played in Newcastle for 20,000 people !

We will fucking fill the Olympic Stadium man !!!

They should change the venue NOW !!!

harmony

Agreed Ahlungor. They need to change the venue. Unfortunately I suspect ticket sales had already started for Newcastle fans to buy tickets to Asian Cup

Just one question. Would we have won last night against China if we didnt have Tim Cahill ?

I think the Socceroos looks much better after Cahill broke the deadlock with that amazing first goal !! if he didn't score that or the second header, could we have still won, I don't know, it may even go to extra time. It's the mystery of the game. But those two goals certainly opened up the game, both teams had more chance since but NO ONE had managed to add to the score !! that's just made the Cahill goals so precious and special, if the final scores were 4-2 or 5-3 to the Aussies, it would have diluted Timmy's great efforts !!

Yep they looked quite nervous the first half. After Cahill scored, they played exceptionally well. It could have been 5 - 0

yea... just looking again at the stats now.. 68% for japan and 35 total shots to uae's 3.. 8 shots on target against 2.. these number make it even more surprising they lost..

Posting of hot and sexy soccer babes are good, but we got to look at the big picture, before Japan lost, they were the favourite to win the Asian Cup final at $3.00, the Aussie were second favourite at $3.20 !

Now the defending Champion is gone, the Australian Socceroos are the new favourite @ $1.83 - who would have thought ??

GO Aussies !!!!

Haha I rather not bet. Who knows what will happen, and although Australia are favourites I don't like the fact that against the quality teams, Australians can't score goals apart from Cahill
Happy to see other Aussies start scoring against quality teams beyond Oman and Kuwait
I will do a search for Korean sporting ladies in the meantime, both athletes and cheergirls

Who said? I think about 10 different names on the scoresheet for the Socceroos after they won the match against UAE, Cahill is a legend on his own but this current team sure play a great new style and I love every minute of it. Well done to Ange! Let win this boys!

Got tickets for the match tomorrow night.
Should be a great atmosphere at Homebush - biggest match since the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in 2005.
That's my biggest sporting moment that I have seen live. But Asian Cup winners might top it.
And hopefully there will be some sad Korean girls after the match who need a shoulder to cry on ;)

Looks like the squad is fit and healthy and free from injury !

When Ange puts our best 11 on the park, we should win this !

Not sounding cocky , with a bit more firing power last time, the Socceroos should be the unbeaten team in the tournament instead of the South Koreans !

I think both Kruse and Leckie are due to get on the score sheet ! But then again, another goal from Cahill will surely brings the house down !!

Go Aussies !!

Here is Cahill's bicycle kick gaol:

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/waveflows/Cahills-goal_zpsnxui2vfg.jpg (http://s92.photobucket.com/user/waveflows/media/Cahills-goal_zpsnxui2vfg.jpg.html)

The only reason he had the room to kick this goal was because one of the defenders, who would otherwise be marking him, was laying flat on his back clutching his face in the usual soccer "agony." Moments before he had lost his balance when bumped while contesting a header, and he went down like a sack of potatoes and writhed there in agony. Such is his agony (located in some indeterminate part of his body) that all he can do to deal with it is hide his face from the world (and his opposition scoring a goal.) This extreme sensitivity to, erm, 'pain' is a vulnerability of all soccer players, especially in the penalty box.

Soccer translated to rugby league terms would mean that every single tackle would result in players writhing on the ground, pleading for the medi-cab! :shout: The game would take as long as a three day cricket match! And what a 'spectacle' it would be!

Despite this player's near mortal agony, moments after the goal was scored because of his own bullshit, he got to his feet, suddenly cured.

I'd start banning soccer players for matches until this wimpy, theatrical bullshit was rubbed out of the game. As it stands, it makes me sick to watch.

Ps. Guys, sorry to rain on the parade a bit.

Awesome atmosphere at Homebush Stadium!
The Red Devils were out in force and their chant of "Dae Han Minguk" rang loud and proud across the stadium.
The Red Devils were totally outnumbered by the green and gold army but they made up for lack of numbers with total passion and commitment.
On the pitch it was a tough contest.
Luongo's excellent solo effort, the Koreaan equaliser in the dying seconds and then Juric's amazing determination on the touch line leading to Troisi's goal.
So many horny Korean girl in the crowd - well they were wearing red horns anyway ;)
Great night for Australian football!
And a big thanks to the Korean team and fans for making it a tense and exciting match and spectacle..
