This is a punting related article - many people use their cars to get to a punt

Anyway, some dodgy Japanese company produces 20% of the worlds car air bags

For years, this company denied there was a problem with its airbags - a few people in the USA died from shrapnel when their airbags were deployed !

But finally they have admitted that their airbags have a faulty design, and when deflated the airbags can fire shrapnel into the drivers (1 / 100 risk with each airbag)

Thankfully no reported problems yet in Australia, but as described, there is a predicted 1 / 100 risk of dangerous shrapnel with the affected airbags

Check to see if your car is on the list (see below)

The official government recall website is here:

www.recalls.gov.au (http://www.recalls.gov.au)

The complete article from todays news is also here

www.news.com.au/finance/business/worlds-biggest-recall-now-53-million-cars-with-takata-airbags-might-spray-shrapnel/story-fnkgdhrc-1227361789731 (http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/worlds-biggest-recall-now-53-million-cars-with-takata-airbags-might-spray-shrapnel/story-fnkgdhrc-1227361789731)

MORE than half a million cars in Australia are now part of what has become the world’s biggest automotive recall for airbags that can spray shrapnel — and the figure is set to climb.

Concerned motorists have swamped the government’s information website recalls.gov.au (http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/952855/fromItemId/952839)crashing it in the early hours of Thursday morning

Japanese company Takata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takata_Corporation), manufactures 20 per cent of the car industry’s airbags
The company has finally admitted to a US hearing overnight that the number of faulty airbags is much greater than it originally forecast.

The number of affected vehicles has now climbed to a staggering 53 million worldwide, including 34 million in the US alone

The car brands that are affected include Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors

To date, all of the car brands involved in the international recalls so there have been no incidents, injuries or deaths reported in Australia.

However, at least six overseas deaths (http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/05/20/us-autos-takata-recall-idUSKBN0O428E20150520)have so far been linked to the faulty airbags which can spray metal shards if the airbag detonator has been exposed to moisture due to a fault in the manufacturing process.Until now Takata had claimed there was no fault, or that the problems had been fixed in its manufacturing process.
But as recently as November 2014, Takata was accused of destroying evidence (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/07/business/airbag-maker-takata-is-said-to-have-conducted-secret-tests.html?_r=0)of internal testing of potentially faulty airbags.

Brother A
I relayed the news earlier in the year on AUS99 about the condom recall.
The news got buried amongst the advertisements here
I know it got buried, because another brother mentioned the same story five days later on AUS99

Check with the website www.recalls.gov.au (http://www.recalls.gov.au), as there may be updates on this recall...

Guys, potentially counterfeit condoms are on the market, probably only in a limited release, leading to a recall of "Durex Mxed Pack" bought online

My 2 cents comments:
-Do not buy condoms online, ever
-This was possibly a limited release of counterfeits, but regardless, it may be best to always buy and bring your own condoms everytime, unless it can be confirmed the condoms a shop offers you, were not bought online
-At the very least, dont use Durex condoms (including Extra Safe, Thin Feel and Performa varieties) if offered to you
-Don't do business with these discount online websites, they potentially arent selling genuine articles
-Any company found to be selling counterfeit condoms should be litigated out of existence, due to the significant health risk posed to the community

This recall was issued on 16th April 2015
I sincerely wish the best, for the customers (hopefully not too many), who used these potentially defective condoms in the month described in the recall below

Article - Holey Condoms recalled

Condoms bought on a discount online shopping site have been recalled for defects

Bargain site Groupon was yesterday forced to refund all customers who hasd purchased the product, known as the Durex Mixed Pack, between March 12 and April 10
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) found the batch was potentially defective and may not prevent pregnancy or protect users against sexually transmitted diseases
Consumers who had bought the pack of condoms, which included Extra Safe, Thin Feel and Performa varieties, were urged to discard them immediately and get a refund

Just saw this and thought i should share this with the bros, considering how my condom broke at blacktown40, you guys might want to start bringing in your own condoms, since this counterfeit shit has been sold on the markets.

I'd not call Takata a dodgy company exactly lol. They produce one of the best racing safety equipment :)

Fair enough, Brother Dude

Takata were informed of their defective air bags last year, but insisted on keeping these faulty products on the market
They are alleged to have been involved in a coverup

This is the biggest recall in world automotive history.

Takata hid results of secret airbag tests - report

Embattled auto parts supplier Takata Corp. tested its airbags for flaws far earlier than previously admitted, and worked to hide the results, according to a new report that casts doubt on the company's safety claims.

20 November 2014
Hiroshi Shimizu, a vice president of Takata, the airbag company that has been subject to a series of recalls in recent years, told a congressional committee, today he does not believe a nationwide recall of Takata's airbags is necessary.

Kim Kopf detailed how her sister Charlene Weaver was killed after a car accident a 2004 Subaru Impreza. Kopf insists Weaver was killed after she was struck by shrapnel related to an airbag in the passenger’s seat.
