lets say there are 20 guys in your office, how many of them do you think have punted at least once in the past 12 months?

In my case i get the impression there are maybe 3-5, based on conversations had in pubs and at team dinners.

Only a tiny minority of guys are regular punters.
A significant minority punt on rare occasions.
The majority don't punt at all.
If the majority of guys punted regularly there would have to be as many brothels as there are convenience stores.

I agree, I believe we are a minority. Although it can be quite surprising to find out those that punt. I remember walking in to a work mates office and seeing PP on his phone. Good looking guy with a super hot GF.

Unless they are gay, but they might also punt.

ok, so we ARE a minority.

This means if a ML/WL has bias against punters as a candidate for serious relationship, she can (relatively) easily cut off contact with all customers/shops, start in a new job and find an honest guy who has no such dirty interests.

Look at how many brothels and massage parlours there are in each suburb of each city...

Just count how many shops there are advertising on this forum alone.

If punting was such a rare art there wouldn't be nearly as many establishments...

It's hard to tell because it's a secretive thing. I'd say we are a minority because alot of guys don't punt for

-financial reasons
-health reasons
-Ethical reasons
-Self-esteem/image reasons
-Relationship/marriage reasons

Regular punters are definitely a minority, though i would think a majority of guys have had a punt of some description i their lifetime.

Rough estimates (massage only) and conservative numbers ?

Number of Shops in Sydney ~ 200
Girls per shop / day ~ 5
Jobs per girl / day ~ 8

So around 8000 HJ per day in Sydney !

Add a bit more for Fri/Sat then it's going to close to 50,000 / week

It's a big business.

Punters are definitely a minority.
It's just that in a city with a big population even a minority is still a lot of people.
Here's the rough maths ... there's around 5 million people in Sydney, so 2.5 million are males, then exclude those under 18 and over 65 and you get around 2 million males who are potential punters.
If only a small minority of them punt, let's say 10% that's 200,000 punters.
That's a lot of punters and you need a lot of shops to service them all.
If a majority of men punted that would be over 1 million punters! You would need a lot more shops to cope with that demand.
You would need a shop on every corner!
it seems like there are a lot of shops in Sydney but there aren't. it's just that they are concentrated in a few suburbs like CBD, Surry Hills, Chatswood.
Most suburbs in Sydney have none or maybe one or two shops.
Punters are a minority.
If you follow the popular press and media you would think that everyone is a punter, an ice addict, a bikie gangster, a terrorist, an illegal immigrant etc
But the simple fact is the vast majority of the population live very simple mainstream lives.

Think I read n article a few years back that 5~10% of Australian men admit to punting. Who knows how many there are who have not admitted? Although - even with those numbers, we probably still are a minority.

The Queensland Government sex industry statistics (http://www.pla.qld.gov.au/Resources/PLA/reportsPublications/documents/Select%20Sex%20Industry%20Statistics.pdf) shows:

* 1 in 30 Queensland men admit to buying sex (ie 3.3%), but the actual statistic is expected to far higher
* Clients are on average in their late 30's
* 10-20% of clients visited sex workers weekly, but it's most common once every few months

The same report also showed very low STI rates of sex worker -- far lower than the general population.

For a global perspective, http://www.havocscope.com/prostitution-statistics/ shows that 9.1% of US men admitted to paying for sex in 2012. I believe the statistic here is much higher given the legal status here.

Also http://www.statisticbrain.com/prostitution-statistics/ shows about 10% of men have purchased sex, and the < 40 age group is the biggest purchase. So that aligns with the above data.

Conclusion: We are definitely a minority. But if Sydney has 5M people, 2.5M males, equal distribution for 83 year life expectancy means 30,120 males per year of age, 30 year period of most commonly buying prostitutes (ie 20s, 30s, 40s) is 903,000 men, times the 10% ballpark above, equals about 90,000 of us.

Many guys don't admit to it but given that there are more shops opening up, there is demand for such service. As one guy wrote here about his Thai girlfriend not giving him oral sex, don't tell me he won't go to a shop to get it. There are many guys out there who have girlfriends and wives who go punting so the suggestion that punters are in the minority is not accurate.

I thought all of you were my friends though?

Cuteguy, you're saying that that number is over 50%? Would mean that a lot of those studies results were significantly inaccurate... We are less than 50% and there are many reasons for that (money, morality, personality), but that doesn't matter at all - we are what we are and you should live your life how you want to live it!

We will never know the actual numbers of punters out there. Maybe they should ask the public in the next census by including a question such as "have you paid to have sex with a person and if so, how often do you engage in such activity, weekly fortnightly etc?" However the government can't ask such questions in a census and we know why.

Can't imagine accurate results as the family sit around the dining table filling that one out!

A large enough sample size where you can confirm anonymity is all that is ideally needed...

For the older brothers, has the attitude toward massages/WLs changed since you were younger? I know personally that my outlook as rapidly changed in recent years.

Even if we're not a minority - which I tend to agree that we are (at least us regulars). There's a whole heap of ill will that could come our way if we weren't careful with our privacy - careful bro's ! Even those you think might be understanding often have their own ideas !

A total of 4 or so guy friends know, other than the WLs that I eventually came to be friends with.
