I think you are looking into it too much mate. What is the difference if they ask? You were going to offer to pay first anyway.

If it's your first visit, you don't know them and they don't know you so they just want to make sure they get paid at the end of the session. If you are still being asked to pay first after a few sessions then maybe there is an issue.
