I think $500 is a bit pricey, and flights to Phil are a bit on higher side next two weeks. Emirates has a 8 pm flight to BKK reaches 1 am next morning, and return Sunday reaches monday morning gives me 1 full day and night. I prefer to punt in one of the safer Asian destinations, it does cost more but safety is not a big issue.

If this is your second trip in a month, after you add up the flights, hotel, and all the other costs involved there might not be a massive difference in cost compared to punting locally. Sure there is not as much variety here but it's actually not that bad.
