I always thought that it was called Spanish because Spanish ladies tended to have bigger boobs, thus enabling the act.
We all (should) know what "Spanish" is terms of terms of having fun with women.
While browsing some railway related sites recently I came across a similar term in respect of train station layouts:
In railway and rapid transit parlance, the "Spanish solution" is a station layout with two railway platforms, one on each side of the track, which allows for separate platforms for boarding and alighting.
Got me wondering who thought of the term first.

Also known as RUSSIAN
I thought something along the same lines. Common in that area, hence the slang. Similar to Greek.
Interesting about the railway. Not something I’d have thought would have been used.
