Back in 2013-14 a HK ML with a gambling addiction did ask me for a loan. Not much, maybe $300. She did the full repayment in several instalments over a 6-month period. But I had to keep reminding her

Considering the earning potential, I would be very suspicious of lending a ML money. She should have ample funds to help her parents out. Alarm bells would be ringing and pointing to addiction issues i.e. gambling or substance.
Most likely gambling, or owing money to some dodgy piece of crap.
Could be both as well as living beyond your means maybe ��
