Daedalus, father of Icarus and a master craftsman, fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son, so they coukd escape Crete. Before trying to escape the island, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, as the wax may melt, nor too close to the sea, as the salt water would dampen the feathers, but to follow his path of flight. Whether it was hubris, complacency, or just being lost in the excitement while flying, Icarus disobeyed his father and soared into the sky. He flew too close to the sun, and the heat melted the wax holding his feathers together. One by one, Icarus's feathers fell out, until he fell into the sea and drowned.
Don't fly too close to the sun, nor to the sea...
