Yeah everyone has their vices and ways to manage it. Personally im taking a break from the scene, moved to hobbies now - buying and restoring old cars. Way more expensive compared to punting but at least its a 'investment'.
Not to mention constructive as opposed to destructive.
They don't have to work from the property.
Thomas and Orwell both wrote short books or poems; Lawrence wrote junk. They all died young, probably just as well or you would still be stuck in the Library.
