    Kings Cross in the 80's

On the back of the posts about punters age and beginnings I had a few people ask what the cross was like in the 80's.
So with a fair few of you admitting to starting punting around then why not share a few memories and stories eh!

Not only did I punt in the Cross I also helped out a mate at nights who ran a sex shop in the Cross so I had access to a bit more of the life of the Cross than most I guess.

So here is a brief start to the Cross in the 80's from me.

There were about 4 major strip clubs where entry ranged from $0 if you knew who to ask to up to $20. I was addicted to one particular dark girl who I would see any time she was working. Loved to watch her strip and then take her upstairs afterwards for some one on one time.
Some of the clubs provided lap dances in private rooms, some had live sex shows some had drinking competitions on stage with the winner given half an hour with the dancer of his choice.
I won the only 2 drinking contest I entered and also paired up with a stunning Indonesian stripper for a live show on stage. Ended up spending the next week at her place being woken by her grinding on my hard cock each morning, then she would cook me breakfast and off to work we would go. I worked in a City at a major Computing company at the time.
Of course Les Girls on Roslyn Lane wasn't it.... right opposite the kebab place. That place was packed....so popular amongst couples.

    Then there was the Barrel!!!!
Now how they were allowed to operate was beyond me, they did get chased out of the cross to somewhere around Liverpool eventually but anyone who went there would most likely have been in a state of shock. When they moved to Bayswater rd, right near the Brothel with themed rooms (oh man the straw barn was dynamite) the place would be packed out and the dancers would offer up there pussies for a lick or tickle to the full front row. It was as bawdy and rowdy as you could imagine in there and not a face mask or antibacterial wash in sight. Debauchery ruled and pretty much anything was allowed.

    Brothels - heaps.
All the strip clubs offered services, then there were too many brothels to count or mention for now plus Salon Kittys for BDSM. A couple on Victoria, 3 around Kellett, the aforementioned themed room place on Bayswater. The Golden Apple was my go to shop at the time, they just had better looking ladies. My fav was a chick with the most amazingly silky hair way down past her bum. I used to love the feel of it on my naked body as she rode me.

Adult Shops - Club x (Martin) had about 3 shops and there were Video booths/rooms where you could watch alone or bring a working girl in with you.
Martin was also known to offer young ladies their choice of freebies if they accommodated his fetishes. I once walked in on him with his fist up a young lass on the floor. There was also a shop downstairs next to the railway which had about 4 spacious Video rooms with tissues and a chair provided.

Street Walkers - Dozens and dozens all down William St and Riley st and the back streets. The cops would trawl around in their wagons chatting to the girls and taking them in for a bit of fun. A steady flow of Government Comm Cars would cruise down the lane behind 2JJJ and pick up the trannies. A cop car once rammed me accidentally whilst I was getting a blow job in the front seat down a back lane. That led to a fairly comical exchange.
Darlinghurst road had a fair few girls near the Top of the Town and how many of you remember the batman incident in the building on the corner of Darlinghurst and William just as you turn left in to William to go back to the city.
Quite a few chicks used to hitch hike from out Norht and Sout West to work the streets and others just worked when Rent was due. There was an ever changing selection.

    Crowds -
So many people used to be on the main drag on a Saturday night. Hardly any room to walk around. There was an all night take away, burgers, kebas etc on the corner of Bayswater and one night a bunch of guys in a crowd of at least 50 people were kicking and hitting a blow up doll and calling it a slut , it was fucking hilarious to watch.

Gambling - The Barclay club on Bayswater and a few other hotels ran at least half a dozen BlackJack and Russian Poker tables from dusk till dawn (without the blood and guts) and there were many smaller coffee shops running one table games usually poker. I was asked to leave the Barclay twice because I count cards and made it a bit too obvious. Jock , the big Irishman who had a penchance for really loud music and provided Gay Porn for his staff, also ran a massive illegal Poker Card Machine den but you had to know someone to get in.

Crime - probably best to skirt over this one, lets just say I have visited a lot of the colorful identities on the time at their homes. Drugs were pretty easy to get hold of. Lost count of the number of times I was offered some form of illicit substance at the snooker rooms above the station or in the strip clubs.
Amyl Nitrate was available at pretty much every adult shop too.
Saw 3 murders in my time there too, probably no need to talk about them though.

Well that will do for a starter I guess......

Would love to hear others stories and recollections. I could literally fill a book or two.

Details were sketchy back then, big crowds, things happened so quickly. I remember going to the Love Machine club one night, being in the crowd sitting down for a show
My mate was brought onto the stage as we watched, and possibly lost his virginity on stage that night.
WLs from the club would approach you in your chair and whisper 'do you want to come upstairs?' Most likely uncovered BJ or sex. I didnt want HIV AIDS so said no

Not sure whether to laugh or cry when I read about the decline of the scene in Sydney. Obviously a lot of corruption back in the day and a lot needed to be cleaned up

But the sex industry today in Sydney is a pale imitation of what once was available

The Cold Chisel song "Saturday Night" features the spruikers from the clubs in that era. They were crazy times. Those who complain about grumpy mamasans have no idea what used to happen on the streets
Well yes although I think it was the late 80's and early 90s when they controlled the alcohol business, had that Club on the corner opposite the Cocoa Cola sign. Tame guys by comparison to others.

The powder puffs complaining about mamasans make me laugh , wonder how they would have gone in those days.
Had one Spruiker/Security guy pull a huge fucking knife on me one night , all good I talked him down.....drugs are bad mmmkay..

Quite often if you misbehaved in a club you would be dragged on to the street and belted and kicked. It was a fairly common sight.
In the early 90's a lot of the shops and Clubs got together to pay security guys to patrol the area to stop some of that behaviour but it backfired spectacularly when those security guys started pulling knives on people.

Did you see Miss Bodybuilder Aust at Love Machine?

Thank you very much BDU for taking the trouble that was a fascinating read. I visited the X for the first time while holidaying here in 1994 and whilst it had toned down a bit from how you describe the 80s it was still paradise with tons of cheap keen young caucus available.

Even in 2009/2010 there was still enough sw talent to make a stroll down William st interesting

Huge change since then but its a global phenomenon i see it in a lot of cities/countries....definitely London new York San fran Amsterdam manila they all fell off a cliff punting wise...

Reasons complex...new puritanical outlook in society/politics...migration to online...gentrification...covid....increased prosperity/career choices for working class girls and developing country girls

But its a shame and I think it may take centuries for the cycle to turn again......us oldies lucky to have seen it at its best...let's try to enjoy what we have before it gets worse....pattaya the last refuge!

$5 for a handjob back then. Well the only one I had cost me that anyway.
Used to be $60 max for FS in a reputable brothel. Did a full on lesbian double at ATOC for $120
Cannot remember street prices but I do recall $6 for the room and $30 for the chick at one place. Of course in the car would save you $6

[QUOTE=chariot;2609177]Really good point. Sydney and the world had gone through a 'free love era'. The pill meant women could have sex and not worry about getting pregnant. HIV wasn't a thing so no strings attached sex was as popular as going to a movie
AIDS was a big deal in the 80’s it scared the fucking out of me 😂

Old two eyes and no clue Siimon did try his best. Real dropkick of a bloke, even worse in person.

It never bothered me in the slightest but it did cause the return of condoms in the late 80's to most shops.
The street walkers generally continued at least with BBBJ but it was annoying.
Somewhere in the vicinity of gallons of saliva needed to be exchanged to even run a risk of contracting it, so if you steered clear of blood and did not put anything up your arse (no filter) you were pretty right.

SWs abounded on Darlinghurst Rd east side in those days. Couldn't walk from the fountain to Bayswater Rd without half a dozen "wanna girl, mate?" offerings from some decrepit looking women.
In the late 80s, a lot of the "girls" on William St were trannies.

The back lanes behind the corner of William & Forbes were all made one way & adjusted to discourage cruising for street prostitution.

All I remember from the early 80s was the video game arcade located near the entrance to the train station. Fun times

in the 90s i use work as a bar tender in the city, than would go too the Cross after work with the islander bounces and stay there to Sunday lunch time,
than when going home on the train, you smelled like booze, smokes and vomit,
in terms of punting never touch the dirty junky slags as most of the strippers and prostitutes where addicted to Heroin, but it was funny watching them running up and down the stairs to short stay hotel above the arcade with desperate punters, got asked a few times do i want a date with a lady, and laughed because she could hardly walk and her nose was dripping, and had to say i thing you are already full,

Yeah Harry M bought into Horizon apartments (i forget the original name S something ?) and they originally put up cameras all over Forbes but he eventually got his way and they closed down Forbes and the surrounding streets to stop the constant stream of Johns cruising around.
Premier Lane remained open for the Government types to satisfy their fetishes a bit longer.
You used to be able to find a SW anywhere in that maze of streets even right up to almost the front door of Roger Rogersons old home.....Surry Hills cop station....
    Heady days those.....

    Thanks BDU

Late 80s early 90s for me. Actually had sex on stage at The Love Machine. The girls working there were sometimes ridiculously young. "Want to come upstairs?" was the invite. Did once, cost $40. She was hot but of course it was over in a flash. Plus the Eros cinema on George st, went upstairs with a super hot Swedish stripper. Then did several car punts. So many hot young caucasian babes. The best was a mid-late 20s caucasian stripper who gave the best slow bbbj cim while I was stoned off my chops... actually to this day the best blowjob of my life ☺️. Quite a few indigenous girls too. All the brothels had affordable young caucasian babes. The first Asian brothel I can recall was on Pitt St across the road from where 429 is now. The first time I went there the mamasan made a point of saying to me that they only had Asian girls. Then more Asian brothels popped up but they were still all young babes. Now it's so many milf brothels and tiered pricing... websites like this are partly to blame I think 😊 on the other hand back then when walking around stoned a little online intel would have helped ☺️.

Yes , on the left facing Central. Up stairs....and into a labyrinth. Last time there was '94. Drove down Pitt St , out the front were parked 2 black vans. Parked my car, walked back , got to Pub on the corner and the girls were being marched out and into the vans. Initially thought some lucky (rich) fuckers was having a party. No it was immigration officials. Never dared to go back.

My very first Cross experience was at golden apple before it's closed and later moved to central. Still remember her name. Venessa, the big booty Brazilian gem, with a soft pair of Cs. Bleached blonde and green eyes . Man I exploded.

Great days. I started in the 70s. $20 was the going rate for a street walker. But 20 back then was like 250 today. Quality was very mixed.
Places like A Touch of Class were $50/100 an hour. Quality punts.
I remember taking a street girl to this plywood divided joint. Guy at the desk watching all the activity on a b/w tv with one lousy camera watching everyone. So bad a clarity that it was hopeless. Had a beer with him and watched the passing parade. Funny night

My school was near Kings Cross. I used to punt there carrying my school bag to walk there after school in 80s. I saved my lunch money for it. My parents were very generous about the lunch money as they believed I should eat well.
