Viagra should be fine, it's true that you should check with your GP but they just ask some random questions and will just give you the prescription anyway. I was also worried so I only took half of the pill in my first time. It worked great so I just keep doing half pill when I need it.
Flushing to the head and red eyes, and mild headache afterwards. If you can tolerate that then you're all good.
P.S. you can lift and do squats better after taking it as well. Better as in more blood flow to muscles (in my experience anyway).
I've been using viagra for every punt even though I'm healthy and erect hard. But taking viagra just help makes it much better.
I've changed to Cialis instead, it's not as strong as viagra. Less flushed and less blocked nose issue. taking 250mg 1 hour before the session and it can last up to 3 days with less side effects.
I personally dislike the long effectiveness of Cialis. The problem is it becomes difficult to judge when it would kick in. There's no sense at all having a stonking hard-on when you're standing up presenting something on a whiteboard.

I prefer taking viagra in gel form, as in Kamagra gels, because the side effects were so much gentler than tablet form viagra/generics.
And yes, it means I can waste half a sachet by not taking it all.
