    Sleep Deprivation

    Hello everyone,

This isn’t a punting related discussion, but just wanted to see if anyone else faces sleep deprivation and if/ how they fixed it?

Lately been so stressed from life in general I developed a habit of staying up very late, sometimes till 4-5AM in the morning stressing about not getting enough sleep (I know seems retarded), but I can’t get myself to shut off at night.

Sometimes if it’s 4-5 AM I’ll just fuck it and not sleep that day and just go about my day, this has altered my lifestyle for the time being, I’m no longer consistent in the gym, my food intake is very little as I don’t workout and don’t feel as hungry these days, and I feel like this is going to have a very negative affect on my overall health.

Now it might seem simple, to just sleep on time and get a good nights worth of sleep, start eating well and working out again, but it’s physically getting hard to get motivated or get my body to do so.

    Any suggestions?

There could be several things in play. I'm not a Dr so do your own research and get others opinions.

    1. Are you affected by sleep apnea? If you're overweight, or have a history of breathing issues this can severely affect the quality of your sleep. I track my sleep with the Galaxy Smartwatch but there are plenty of options to see how good/bad your nights are.
    2. Early day Sunlight and exercise is the best way to reset your circadian rhythm towards feeling tired at night. Try and force yourself to get some sun on your face as early as possible.
    3. Pre-sleep routine matters, I game, am addicted to my phone, and work too much so I have to really force myself to reduce screen time and lower the lights in the hr or so before bed.
    4. Sleep stack, getting everything else in order, I take this stack every day and its done wonders for my Deep Sleep time. 400mg Magnesium, Collagen Powder, 9mg Melatonin, 750mg GABA and 3000mg of Glycine.
    5. Alcohol, shitty diet, stress, anti-depressants etc all fuck with your sleep quality. I know of guys who sleep better after seeing a therapist. There are many things that you can potentially adjust.

have you tried any sleeping medications? like melatonin? or you could try to chug down a cup of chamomile tea before bed time

As the others have said, go see a doctor mate. As someone with diagnosed sleep apnea that I don’t treat properly it will literally take years off your life and destroy its quality. Go get checked and if you do have it get it treated.

Also worth going to therapy of some kind. If you are having issues with mental health it’s no the sort of thing you can always deal with yourself. You’d be surprised by how much people struggle with life and they don’t say anything.

And finally the odd trick I’ve found is coffee about 5 minutes or less before bed. For me the caffeine actually helps me get a better nights sleep.

I had a period of insomnia, it was 100% mental. All over, you guessed it, a bloody woman. And it became a self-fulfilling prophecy, because every night I would go to bed wondering if it would strike again, and of course it did.
It's such a cliche but exercise, diet lowering caffeine and having a good pre-bed routine all seriously help, but if the problem is stress you need to address that cause, either develop stress relief techniques or eliminate the source of stress.
A mate of mine, who admittedly is a fucking lunatic, gets up 3am every day to go running, shirtless, regardless of weather or temperature, and heads to the gym at opening to do his workout. Then he gets ready for work. He's in bed by 8pm every night. This all started after his brother died a few years ago and he was deep diving some Dave Goggins stuff and he said "Fuck it, I'm already up, may as well start running". His insomnia disappeared really fucking quickly.

    Sleep Deprivation

Cheers brothers for all the info.

I think I honestly need less screen time, I do a fair bit of gaming, my job is full of screens and I find myself on my phone for hours before bed.

Maybe I should try some of the pre bed rituals you guys have mentioned and see if it improves otherwise head to the docs and get it sorted.

Honestly I haven’t even had straight caffeine from coffee, pre workout or even tea recently. I just fkn need to get back into working out, meal prepping and eating healthy and having a good bed time routine, which def includes putting down the phone.

There are many reasons as mentioned in the thread.
I had serious apnea and had it treated. Charged a lot of things in my routine diet etc. sleeping improved tremendously. But everyone may have different reasons. I have some deprivation now but that’s due to medical condition and treatment, but I work with the doctor to help me improve my sleep

    Always seek medical expert advice.

See a GP discuss your situation.
The GP might refer you to a specialist and the sleep clinic to do testing.
Or suggest afew things to help, diet excersise etc.

    .

Sounds like you are on screens. That should be changed. Don’t get over stimulated by tv or games otherwise you will go on for hours. And if you are on screens at work then you not getting the rest your brain and body require.

You need at least 8 hours sleep as an adult.

Set a regular bed time wind down with chamomile tea. Read a book rather than watch tv or play games.
If you have a kindle set it on black background white text at low setting.
Wear a night eye patch can help.
Turn phone off or in sleep mode.

But again, discuss with your GP. You need your sleep as and deprivation affects your daily life .

Take care and sort it out, as your health in general is impacted with lack of sleep.

My sleep is all over the place.

I find as I get older I need less sleep. If it worried me I’d do something about it.

    Others sleep all day?

    Nothing gets done.

Agreed. See your GP as soon as you can
I bet there are at least 3 changes you need to make in your life
Avoid caffeine after 3pm until you get your mojo back

    Don’t drink caffeine after 8am

    No anxiety or imbalance.

Why be sedated like the rest of the population? Dumbed down and made slow.
    No thank you.

I don't have issues drinking coffee 3-4 times a day.
I had ADHD when I was a kid, but the inattentive type. Growing up I struggled with maths even though I'm a physics major. ADHD specialists explained that those like myself benefit from caffeine because it doesn't make me hyper but rather helps me to focus.
Nowadays my ADHD is mostly gone but there are still traces that makes me who I am - I need lots of motivation in order to get certain things done in life, otherwise I would just ignore it.

I find magnesium the best supplement for sleep if you're trying to avoid alcohol or drugs.

All is well guys, turns out reducing screen time late at night, and not keeping any electronics in the room you sleep in works wonders.

Back to my old sleep schedule, which helps me get up in the morning, since I’m up in the morning all my meals are on time, since I’m full of energy workouts are back on track as well.

Who knew you had to put down the phone and stop endlessly scrolling Insta reels at night.

Well insta is just one place, it’s mostly I used to transition my nights from finishing stuff on my PC (sometimes work smother time gaming) and heading to bed, and using my phone to maybe catch up on anime, maybe read a thread or two here, listen to Joe Rogan talk about how a brown bear will rip me to shreds, scroll through Insta reels of the same content over and over again.

I mean as a gen z I have had an Insta account a lot longer than I’ve had my drivers license or even a passport so yeah sue me for using insta ahahahah

Not sueing you, just stating how badly superficial and effete the world has become thanks to SM

Effete is from the Latin word effetus - no longer fruitful; weak and without much power

Don't let SM suck your brain out, through your eyeballs. It will try to
