The justice system, not just in Australia, places too much power into the hands of judges, I reckon. The whole system works diligently on everything during a case, everything is done by the book, only for the final judgement to be handed down by a single person based on arbitrary criteria.
If only there was a mechanism that could make a judge pause for thought and tell him "your Honour, before you hand down that sentence, have a look at how it would look like in the headlines. Are you sure you want to do this?". Maybe then they'll realise how stupid it looks like on paper.

Just read the article - an appalling crime - the reality is that you don't know anyone as well as what you think - and many people don't know themselves as well as they think.

In one paragraph the story refers to this lunatic giving a lecture on selling body for sex is wrong. just curious to know if he started a bit of preaching with bible in his hands too? A girl told me they used to have frequent visitors from a local church coming to the shop everyweek talking to WLs on how the church can help them to find a job and stop doing sex work.
