I came here to Australia alone. Many people back home called me crazy. After settling here for more than a decade people are asking me how I did it.

One of my blood brothers from Russia also made the same journey alone a few years before I did - he went to the US, settled in New York and is now a proud holder of one of the strongest passports in the world. Then again he plans to move here to Australia in the future lol

My point is that if you're smart enough you'll make it. Only idiots who blow money like there's no tomorrow will suffer wherever they go - the only thing here in this country that saves them is Centrelink.

Its all about being smart my pa came here with nothing to now hes a millionaire investor. But many people believe it or not are living on weekly pay check and credit card debt. Not ideal. and many have zero savings also not smart. Don't just go live in Asia and retire there with limited savings. I'd never give up living here even though its expensive. Owning a property is a good start.

It's better to start retiring in Asia only when you have passive income and a huge savings.

To be honest I'm not likely to retire in Asia. One of my distant relatives left our motherland after living there her whole life and is now settling down in Melbourne. She's already 80 now. She could've lived a good life after decades of serving communism, but she doesn't like the rampant corruption that's happening. I was also a victim of corruption in Asia.

Otherwise just do punting holidays I think this is better than living there. I have inlaws in Asia so have been over there a fair bit but haven't gone back since that virus. I think for over 80s probably better off being here if you have your own independence and won't be forced to a nursing home. Yeh corruption is all over Asia. If you lived in Japan you would have to worry about getting hit by little rocket man missile. If your living in China and they want to put you in jail for being white your done. Same for Thailand don't think they won't throw you in jail for something you didn't even do, they would.

I recall reading once that the prettiest girls in Japan came from Hirosaki.

This was a good pick up line I used many times:
    Me: Are you from Hirosaki?
Girl: No, why do you ask?
Me: I've heard that the prettiest girls in Japan come from there.

Good idea to retire in SE Asia?

With the way cost of living is escalating here, it may be the only sensible thing to do.

As Thailand becomes more prosperous, (they are taking a lot of the manufacturing base away from neighbouring countries including China), don't be surprised to see cost of living become higher. Lots of Westerners moving in will also see things changing.

Like most things, the good days never last forever

It'll be like how the immigration influx here causes inflation. Westerners moving in with their alcoholism, lack of respect for local customs and treating local women as sex toys. The local men won't be hesitant on bashing up any Westerner on their streets just because a few misbehaved since the law there might turn a blind eye on foreigners.

I've always found this description useless. It has a factor of TEN embedded in it. It tells you nothing
