Probably because they have got away with it all these years because of their positions of privilege and power.
I would not feel sorry fot them. The only injustice is that they got away with it for so long.

The love birds are in France to their property she bought for 600k and taxpayers funded their multiple overseas trip to Maldives, Geneva and Paris over the last 12 months. She can't work in Australia so good decision to move to Europe as she was volunteering for UN for a while. Next time you hear her name she might be decorated with a title at UN HQ in Geneva.

we have not heard the last of Higgins yet..... she might lose the defamation case: https://www.smh.com.au/national/west...20-p5estg.html

Reynolds’ lawyers ready freezing orders as Higgins, Sharaz move to France
WA Liberal senator Linda Reynolds’ lawyers are set to pursue freezing orders in the defamation suit against her former staffer Brittany Higgins amid reports she and partner David Sharaz have left the country bound for Europe.

The former defence minister is demanding Higgins and former press gallery journalist Sharaz fork out damages, as well as aggravated damages, over several social media posts she claims were defamatory of her.

Not unlike the Bruce Roberts-smith case. Look how that went for him. We'll see how this goes I guess.
There is almost no actual evidence to make a case about rape. No DNA evidence. One person's word against another. I'm not even sure there is evidence that sex took place, as the lady didn't go to the police/hospital
    Noone knows what actually happened

So seriously, this defamation case relies on the defence team proving that rape was likely?
What a waste of time and money
There are no winners here apart from the lawyers. Wait until it is announced just how much the lawyers will ask for in court costs

It was on the news they stated she's gone to a new property in France with a fiancee and a near 3 million. Probably some sports cars to.

$600 000 for the property? Much cheaper than Sydney

As a taxpayer who presumably contributed for this, am I entitled to rent share maybe 1 day a year there?

Well it was Lehrmann who sued channel 10 and Lisa Wilkinson so no one needs to be selectively outraged about their precious taxpayer dollars.
Dudes are so made that a woman claimed she was raped, makes me wonder why.

If a woman claims to have been raped, then it is up to the legal system to deal with the alleged rapist. The real issue is the huge compensation amount (north of $2,000,000).
Keep in mind that most victims of other crimes and accidents do not end up getting anywhere this amount.

For example, if someone loses their eyesight, or an arm or a leg, they would not get this kind of money. I am aware that her compensation relates to the Commonwealth's failure in its "duty of care". Not relating to having had an unwelcome "penis in her vagina" [the expression she used in the witness box a couple of weeks ago during the defamation trials].

This story makes JJ, Begov94 and the other aliases look like a cheap pantomime.

Anyway, the other politician ie Linda Reynolds has now put a freezing order on the fat narcissist that could prevent her from shifting any of the assets to France etc at least until the case has been finalised by the court.

    What a cluster fuck!

Reynolds is an imbecile. You can’t freeze assets unless they were illegally gained. This payment was signed off at the highest levels of Govt. Higgin’s lawyers were on the front foot from the moment Morrison apologised to her in the House of Reps for the ordeal she went through. No way back after that.

Same people jumping up and down over this were silent when the LNP bought a property off their donors for ten times market value. As if a few paper bags didn’t go the other way on this corrupt deal.

    She did? With what power?

Higgins got 2.4 million because the government admitted it breached it's duty of care in the workplace. Why you so mad? Do you think that's what caused the cost of living crisis? People get workplace settlements like this all the time, this one just happens to be very public.
Dude's are so mad though for some reason.

A considered summation on this saga that's drawing to a close.

Remember Robodebt? Morrison & his LNP govt. were capable of cover-ups, so this is no surprise

People are mad because there is clearly a disconnect between the perceived "damage" and the payment amount.

You are correct, these types of settlements are often made in workplace disputes.
And I would say, people would also get mad at those if they were made public.

In other words, people are not singling out Higgins just because she's Higgins or because she's a woman. It is simply the overall feeling of undeserved benefit that the person in question is getting.

if you think damages awarded in Australia are big, then have a look at the USA.
Two poll clerks who Rudolph Giuliani accused of rigging the US Presidential election sued for defamation and were awarded US$148 Million in damages - that's around AUD$220 Million!

What was the final outcome from the expert 'lip reader' they brought in?

Saw some footage from the bar on the night of the incident. She was wearing a low cut white singlet top. Much slimmer than now and very busty.

All I want to say is that she was very fuckable on that look. But of course, rape is totally unacceptable and a crime .

This is some of the lip reader, Tim Reedy's report. He's profoundly deaf since birth apparently

Well no actually, in the contract the two million plus dollars was given without any admission of liability by the goverment of any failures whatsoever.

The turkey Morrison getting up in parliament and apologising like it was rock solid fact, because it was on The Project, as someone else here pointed out, had her lawyers rubbing their hands together in glee. That is all that achieved.

It is off topic, but another huge goof he made was instead of any other nation, including the US, putting his dopey scone above the trenches, big noting himself shouting for a coronavirus origins enquiry. That cost Australia 20 billion in trade with China - for what? To big note himself?
