Pretty hard to quit unless something external happens to ‘force’ it.
For me it was a combo of things, several bad punts, getting STDs, reduction in spare cash, and then getting busted by my gf. Main thing was the major drain on money, it was getting out of hand. I pay with everything through my phone these days, driving licence and medicare card on there too, so I don't really need my wallet with me - except to take out cash for a punt. No cash, no punt because I'm not dumb enough to pay by card
I did quit for a couple of years a while back. I did it by setting a monthly budget of $200, and once spent you wait to the start of the following month. It was dropping visiting shops to once a month. Once you get used to punting once a month, you try to make it once every 2 months.... after a while you don't miss it.
