That's was me many years ago !!

Went to casino tried to win $200 so that I could go to Zanadu, Chequers or Babylon and had a free session ! (those were the places to go - wasn't into FS anyway!). Sometimes I won of course, but most of the times ended up losing thousands. Max out the cards on the daily cash withdraw limits on so many occasions. It's an addiction, it's a disease. It's not fun, it's not a thrill, you will eventually lost everything !!

I was very lucky that one family tragedy ended up helping to turn me into a new leaf and I don't go to Star City anymore, not once since 2007 ! And now I am sticking to my $110 massage per week. Plus $100 on the footy (that's still $10,000 a year, come of think of it, but a lot more affordable!!), if the footy wins, I have more punts, if I lost, I have at least one RnT session.

Punt as much as you pleased, but don't go gambling.

Just my $210 worth of opinion !!

    Cheers

The thrill of punting beats the thrill of gambling for me, and it is cheaper!

Mate, I am trying to quit gambling now. Not worth it. I sometimes used to think like you - try to win $200 and go punting. The result? Lost $1000 and thought "fuck, would've just been cheaper to go punting by itself". The other thing is, if I won, I would then think "damn, $200 is a lot of money, might as well save it" so didn't go punting anyway!

Gambling is one of the worst addictions you can form IMO. I wish my friend never introduced me to the casino the cunt. The sooner you stop, the sooner your life will get better.

winnings is money the wife never knows about

    gambling to punt
Gee I thought half the blokes who play the pokies do it for that reason. Many pokie palaces have a massage palour or two within staggering distance
I've met a few married men who bet on the horses to fund their punting habit.

Personally I dont gamble and if gambling is a problem for you call the gambling help line ... yadida

He LeiLoDao better to invest in casino shares than play the game!
Might be worth joining a gamblers support group to help you kick the habit, might be the best decision you ever made ...

I walk out with bigger amount before and also gave it more like I say gambling is not great but fun for the rush. I go there for being stupid but when you win a decent amount is also fun. I go there once a month when I have time but used their hotel once a week

Gambling - there's a chance of making money
Punting - no way you will get your money back, but as long as you enjoyed it, it is sort of justified

How many hours a week do you need to put in ?
Have you worked out your average winnings and how much you profit per hour of studying the odds and form etc ?

yes, but it depends on which sport and what events I want to play.
Spending time study which event NOT to gamble is more important
    NBA is off season now.

Here is a bit of incentive for you.
I tried to quit for years. It even ruined my marriage and I still didn't quit.
I finally scaped together (increased my credit card limit ) enough go visit my family in Europe. The flight was Europe via Bangkok so I thought since I have never been overseas before, I may as well stop over for a week in Thailand on my way back and see a different culture. I found Pattaya on the net and have never looked back. In the past 2.5 years I have had 4 trips to Thailand, paid off $23,000 worth of personal debt, and have $21,000 in my savings account. As well as Pattaya, my trips have included Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Bangkok. Also Phnom Phen and Siam Reap (Angkor Wat) in Cambodia, i'm not a very spiritual person but I recommend putting Angkor on your bucket list. My next trip is already booked, Thailand as usual with a side trip to the Philippines.
Apart from cheap pussy, the best thing for gamblers about Thailand is that gambling is illegal. Sure there are mafia run gambling dens but i'm not sure what would happen if as a foreigner you actually won, so i'm not tempted to go there.

That was the weird thing I noticed as the gambling got worse over the years. Early on, if I won $200-300, id go home. That ended up blowing out to I wouldn't go home until I won a grand. Unfortunately i'd lose 2-3k trying to get that 1k. You always seem to walk in, win a couple of hundred $ but its never enough. Then you lose it all.

One more tip that a counsellor told me that has helped a lot.

Don't stop gambling and try to save every cent you earn, you'll get pissed off and relapse in a big way.
Do stuff!! Instead of wasting $1000 gambling, go for a punt, buy a surfboard, buy a guitar, take your mum to dinner, go on a holiday every 6 months!!
All these things are cheaper than losing a couple of grand every fortnight. So you get experiences and memories that are much more enjoyable for a fraction of the cost, and you get more incentive not to gamble.

Sorry for the rant but this topic struck a chord with me

Punting is a sure return; you pay your money you get sex ( the quality you will get is always a bit of a punt - but you will get something in return.
The lure of gambling is you will "get something for nothing". The reality is you will probably lose your money and get stress, anger, and disappointment in return.

So punting seems like the wiser decision.

If you are going to gamble treat it as an investment and not recreation - if you want recreation then spend your money on sex, dining out, the movies, night clubs etc.
    Same basic rules when gambling:
    1.Don't gamble for fun
    2. Don't gamble when drunk
    3. Don't gamble with friends
    4. Avoid games of chance eg pokies, roulette - you will ALWAYS LOSE in the long run
    5. Stick to games that involve skill - if you are good at poker or blackjack then you have a chance.
    6. Stick to sports betting and :
    - stick to sports you understand - do your research.
    - stick to simple outcomes like win/lose/draw (that way you have a 1/2 or 1/3 chance)
    - avoid exotics, multis, exact score etc or just put very small amounts on them
    - don't be lured by "generous odds", back what you actually expect to win; bookies give generous odds because its almost certain it won't happen.
    - don't try and make big money quickly, but rather just regular small winnings - treat it as a regular income stream rather than a windfall win
    - as you start to make money increase the size of your bets but always on short odds or favourites (short odds are offfered for good reason) - NEVER bet big money on a long shot!

These tips are no guarantee - it's gambling after all.

The best advice is still probably the boring advice your mum gave you which is to put the money aside in the bank every week - it's slow and boring but its a guaranteed result.
Then spend your savings on hookers! - that's probably not your mum's advice, but hey, you gotta have fun!
