I use Explorers Inn on Turbot St when I go the Brissy. About the cheapest without ending up in a backpackers'. Less than $100 off season.
I see they give discount to all autoclub members as well.

The $80 is what is available via internet booking website. The rate on their website is $90. I just mentioned the booking website by name rate and they accepted cash at that price.
Room was standard Aussie motel with aircon.
They did take an authorisation on my credit card. As I paid cash this authorisation then expired in 3 days and i had the full limit back again.
I maintain a separate credit card which has online statements only. Even if a charge does go through - it doesn't make it into my home letterbox.
I would definitely use this place again.
