The Sports Thread, Aussie Sports, World Sports and All Sports, let's talk Sports !!

I have started various threads here and elsewhere in regards to Sports and occasionally added some eye candies in the forms of hot sporting babes and the collections of WAG's.

This past year has been big with sports and here are some high and low lights:

    - Nick got dropped for the Davis Cup and Tomic is back in favour

    - Serena Slam was derailed by the unseeded Vinci who subsequently was defeated by fellow Italian Pennetta who won her first ever grand slam title and retired from the sports immediately, talking about going out on a high !! And what a golden handshake for her retirement, the US Open cheque of USD$3.3 million !!

    - Martina Hingis and the hot Indian babe Sania Mirza won the Ladies Double, after winning the Wimbledon a few months ago. Our Aussie Casey Dellacqua did well to reach the final.

    - The dream final for men is currently underway. Federer vs Djokovic, Novak just up a break now leading 5-3 with Roger serving to stay in the first set..............., Roger holds serve. 5-4, Djokovic now serving for the first set ! 6-4. Novak gets the first set, it will be very tough for Roger from here on now !

    - Steve Smith has an awesome summer and became the no.1 test batsman in the world and the next Cricket Captain.

    - Australian men won the Cricket World Cup beating the co-host New Zealand

    - Australian men lost the Ashes, Captain Clarke, Rogers, Watson, Haddin, Harris all retired !!

    - Australian women won the Ashes

    - Australian men won the ODI series, 3-2

    - The Socceroos won the Asian Cup, The Matilda progressed into the second round of the women's World Cup. and now everybody are in pay disputes !!

    - The Socceroos are on track for the World Cup qualifications.............

    - The WEST have won in week one of the AFL and now the All Western Australia Grand Final looks very possible: even if Hawks and Swans can both win this week, they have to travel to Perth again and play Fremantle and Westcoast - looking very difficult now.

    - Out of town teams are doing just as well in the NRL, both Broncos and Storms have won on week 1 and now get a week off, both teams are just one win away from a Grand Final rematch of 2006 !!

    - The Jarryd Hayne story, the only story of the NFL pre-season, will we see the plane takes off tomorrow morning in the season opener, the coach is not committed but I think they will play him, why won't you?

    - The passing of Bart, the Cup King is dead, RIP JB Cummings ! If James Cummings shall win the Cup this year, there will not be a dry eye in Flemington !

    - Buddy Franklin is in trouble, mentally and physically, he is the highest profile AFL player, highest paid player across all football codes in Australia and has one of hottest babes - and yet his life is not perfect ! C'set la vie ?

    - last but not least, I started this summary with Nick Kyrgios so it is only fitting that I end with him and the beautiful Eugenie Bouchard, someone just so bloody lucky, the way they were flirting on the courtside, you would imagine that Nick has scored, won't you.

Here is an open invitation to all members who likes to talk sport, come on in !! and have you say ....

I'm currently watching USOPEN final at work.. Federer had the chance to break in the 2nd game of the 2nd set, but blew it away (5 break points in a single game n couldn't convert).. Something different with him everytime he plays Djokovic in the major.. Same thing happened in Wimbledon.. Nerves??

You are watching !! good on you brother, I could only listen to the US radio.

Roger was up 5-4 in the second and has a bags of break points on Novak's serve, that game went to 7 dues and Novak eventually won on the 22nd point 5-5 second set !!

Roger holds, 6-5, here we go again !!

Yep.. Novak is the worthy champion.. For some reason, Federer doesn't play the same tennis when he plays Novak and everyone else.. He crushes Murray easily, finishes Wawrinka in three quick sets in their recent clash, but with Novak.. It's like he's doubting himself.. Like I said, I saw the same thing happened in Wimbledon (watched that one as well).. Same scenario actually.. Novak won the first set tie break, Federer got the second set (tie break as well), but then Novak won 3-1..

Some may wonder if Federer would ever win another major.. It doesn't matter to me, cos he's still my favourite player.. As for The Djoker, well done!!! I hate to say it, but he played better.. He's probably made for the big stage...

Now US Open is finished, we might have all eyes on the footy finals now.. I myself am supporting The Roosters to win the whole thing, but they didn't play as well as usual when they lost against Melbourne.. This Friday they're playing Bulldogs, who needed a golden point to win against Dragons... I reckon it's an easy win.. Meanwhile, Cowboys would beat Cronulla in the other game by some margin...

    Just my 2 cents..

P.S : Anyone follow baseball at all??

    - Australian men lost the Cricket World Cup beating the co-host New Zealand

We won the world cup, didn't we.

And if Nick is not behaviour, he won't be on tour for the next few months.

The Wallabies won the championship against The All Black.

Thanks buddy, that was a typo ! I was switching between posting and the US Open scores !! it's fixed now!

Talking about the Wallabies, yes, they did win something but the graveyard at Eden Park continued - in a crushing defeat no less. Now, how did we ended up in the group of death at the Rugby World Cup with the two co-hosts ?? and Fiji - who can play too !! And how easy is Group B and C for South Africa and the All Blacks, they are almost guaranteed to top the group !!

Yeap, the finals of both AFL and NRL. And Sydney and Melbourne could be the biggest losers here !!

West Coast Eagles vs Fremantle at the MCG. Not good for the game I suppose but great for the Melbourne economy !!

Same thing for the NRL, just like 2006 when Brisbane Broncos played Melbourne Storms, Sydney economy can use a boost for sure, all the hotels, airlines will be laughing.

Here are the for and against attack and defence records for this year:

    Easts 591 / 300
    Brisbane 574 / 379
    Nth Qld 587 / 454
    The Melbourne Identity 467 / 348
    Cronulla 469 / 476

This means that Easts, Brisbane and the Melbourne Identity have scored around 20 more converted tries this season than Cronulla has.

So this shows that Cronulla has significantly less creativity in attack, most of their tries must came from kicks and it shows they cannot handle a defence of the calibre of Easts (300 against) and Brisbane (379 against.) I for one am not entertained by Cronulla's attack looking like waves splashing against Sydney Heads.

I am sick of supporting a team that has never had any real creativity in attack. To win against the teams above them they always have to play above themselves. Too bad Todd Carney imploded. He was the kind of creative half like Thurston Cronulla needs.

Mind you, Innes does very nice work close to the line.

Anyway, by being pessimistic now I reduce my disappointment when they lose!

Well well well, for us Queenslanders , if Broncos win the premiership, it's a win for Queensland , if Cowboys win the premiership, it's a win for Queensland, and if Melbourne win the premiership ! Yes, you guess it, it's a win for Queensland !

    Go Queenslanders !!

Lol, A Shark fan I see.. They are not that bad to watch actually.. But I agree with you.. Watching them playing the last 2 games (vs Manly n South), this team doesn't have a lot of varieties in their attack.. Against Manly, they couldn't win to secure their place in the top 4... Playing South, they never looked comfortable until the third try.. I don't think they can handle Cowboys, who defends well and offends superbly... Best of luck anyway..
