Basically a suit is like an illusion. If you are short it can make you look taller, if you are cubby (within reason) you can look slimmer. If you are scrawny it can make you look more pronounced in the upper torso. Basically a suit when done right can make you look 1000x better than you really do. Think of it like how a girl wheres a push up to make themselves look bigger it's a similar concept.
^That applies to all clothes, not just suits. Basically clothing items can either assist with your shortcomings or highlight all the imperfections.
