Clover Moore spending over $10 m on Statute?

Shouldn't the money be better spent on feeding the homeless? What are your thoughts.

Fuck the homeless !!!!...I see these cunts every day and know a few of them, they ALL get the dole, they ALL have smart phones, they ALL get free clothes etc from the Sydney City Council. The Sydney Council actually puts on a day for them every 6 months where they get free food, free haircuts, free dental treatment, free clothing (second hand stuff) free furniture (second hand) AND free massages (not RNT). Many of them beg most of the day in the city and get hundreds of dollars every day, and go straight to the pokies either in pubs or the casino. Many of them are offered housing through the Housing Commission but refuse to live there because it is away from the CBD where they get the best tips.

The money for this statue could be put to better use within the city of Sydney other than a stupid fucking statue, other than the homeless.

It is not a statute, it is not even a statue. Just a silly bit of expensive "artwork".

Yes...it is basically Clover Moore saying to all of Sydney..."This is my monument to Sydney, haven't I been a great Lord Mayor"...it is basically monument from Clover to Clover..a vanity project.

I get your point KW but I have to disagree with you, particularly on one point. The homeless aren't the cunts here, Clover Moore is THE cunt! I'm sure her lifestyle along with her narcissistic ego are doing much better than the homeless. At least the council are doing something humane.

Every time governments Local, State or Federal spend money on the Arts there are always critics who come out saying "what a waste of money" "it should have been better spent on blah, blah blah"
OK we need to spend money of welfare, education, health etc, but we need to spend money on the arts too.
Every major city in the world has its landmarks and monuments and sculptures. Some are beautiful, some are ugly, and some are weird, and people will always disagree on which is which.
There is always debate as to whether modern sculptures are really art or just rubbish etc, but we can't just keep repeating classic forms of sculpture and art, as beautiful as they may be, we have to be bold and daring and do something different and I think the "giant tapeworm" is pretty cool and will generate lots of interest, curiosity, and debate and that's a good thing for a city.
There is more to life than just food, housing, transport, defence, health care etc. - these things are all important and should be given priority, but as a society we can spend money on the arts too; that's what cvilised societies do.

Would all those people saying "we should help the homeless" give up a few punts and donate the money to these causes instead?

    Homeless people can be stereotyped.
Sometimes there are legitimate reasons for their dilemma .
Family violence , relationship breakdown , housing affordability,
employment issue's, race and inequality and mental illness.

Or better still, how about those who want to help the homeless let these same homeless stay with them in their house/ apartment or flat?

No mate...I work in the city now and see them everywhere. I also used to work in the casino and would see them in there daily changing all the coins they begged from people in the streets get changed into notes that would go straight into the pokies.

I am a big fan of the Cloud Arch.

10/10 for creativity. Better than the Opera House imo.

Fair enough, sounds like a comprehensive study and that you've considered the many complicated reasons for homelessness.

I don't mind the council spending 10 mill on art but not blown away by the artist's impressions of this piece yet. Hopeful it'll be different in reality.

I am not Peter Costello, but will this enormous wiggle line really attract millions of dollars in tourism?

This woman is spending $11.3 million of public funds on a cloud arch sculpture after initial costings were $3.5 million for the erection of such sculpture. What a waste of public funds that could have been spent much better. Shame on you Clover Moore!

Problem with homeless people is that if they went out and found 1000 people on the the street today and gave them a home, within a couple of days there would be another 1000 people in the same spots looking for the same benefits.

Once governments start giving things away, the leeches come out looking for their share. Just look at what the dole has turned into.

We have heaps of art in the city already, better to spend the money on subsidising RnTs that will make the most people happy

It is a scaled back simplified version now. The engineering involved in the first version was too complicated to be built over town Hall station. I don't mind the arch but I don't like where it is located. It is spoiling permanently the sightlines to the nineteenth century precinct of The Town Hall, QVB, and St Andrews Church. This vandalism won't be fully revealed until it is built The sightlines are our heritage as much as the buildings are. These thumbnails aren't giving you anything like the full picture of its impact, but it can be related to the way monorail rail used to cut the QVB and many other heritage buildings in half. Fuck the thing off out of the 19th century district.

Rooters supportive argument I agree with, but the arch is in the wrong place.

Also the maintanence on it is going to be an high regular expense, and I read somewhere that pigeons and seagulls will be shitting on the public from it 24 / 7.

On average it takes 10 to 12 years in queue to get housing commission.

No fking person wants to live on the streets esp winter - are u kidding

Take a 20 min train from a few suburbs to get to cbd if begging was sooo good.
