I agree with wilisno. The fact of the matter is that if yourself and a WL end up in a room together then you’ve both agreed and taken on the inherent risk.

My guess is the student was ok until she decided to spend 14 days in the middle east and probably caught it days before she flew in to Brisbane. Thus she presented symptoms the next day at the hospital.

Hands aren't really included.. You won't get infected through intact skin. Virus particles on your hands get in through your mucus membranes in your eyes, nose and mouth when you touch your face.

The universities are advising their foreign students how to get around the Australian travel ban that is, don't fly directly from China and stop over in a country like Thailand. The Australian Government has done nothing about closing down this loophole in the travel ban which is being exploited by some travellers.
