The best way of prevention would be to stop or restrict people from Wuhan from entering the country until the situation is under control .
I would restrict all flights coming from China, How many people from Wuhan got out before the lock down ?

It's been reported that it can be in your system 14 days before you show systems...

This needs to be taken more seriously and the Australian Govt is a joke by just handing out a piece of paper with instruction and a phone number to call only during business hrs. They are more worried about losing tourist $$$

The Chinese Govt is trying to contain it by restricting travel and locking down cites but the rest of the world doesn't seem to care about planes loads of people coming out of China........

There was an article that in the week prior to the lock down, about 1-2 million people travelled in and out of Wuhan. So flight restrictions from China won't serve much purpose as there will be people from Korea, Japan, South East Asia who may be carriers without symptoms.

There are reports that China is covering up the actual number of infected in Wuhan. Not sure how real but they do have a history of suppressing the press.

Most of the factory workers go back to there home towns for CNY, they will be due back to work in the next 7-10 days.

How many are going to come back and how many will not be permitted to leave the cities they are in ?

This is going to be massive not just on the medical issues but also on the economic side.

Not surprised. The Communists did the same in Ukraine in April 1986 with the worst nuclear power plant accident in history. The incident was catastrophic, leaving a part of Ukraine a radioactive no-go zone. The Russian authorities who controlled Ukraine at that time until the country became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991 couldn't cover up the fallout once the radiation drifted over Scandinavia.

According to the official Soviet account, the explosion killed two plant workers, while 28 engineers and firefighters died of acute radiation syndrome in the weeks following the disaster. Reports of long-term health effects from Chernobyl vary, but the disaster contaminated an area inhabited by millions. Though experts debate the long-term death toll—the UN put the number at 4,000, while Greenpeace has estimated 93,000—it’s been linked to thousands of cases of thyroid cancer, increased rates of leukemia among those who worked at the site after the explosion, as well as anxiety and mental health problems among those who lived near the site. In 2010, researchers found dramatically increased rates of birth defects among children born near the exclusion zone, including doubled and tripled rates of problems like microcephaly, spina bifida, and incidents of conjoined twins. We will never know the true toll of the Chernobyl disaster.

Spot on cuteguy.....there’s a 5 part docu-movie on HBO titled Chernobyl. It highlights the stupidity, the arrogance, the coverups, the lies and the ensuing debacle caused by the meltdown of one its reactors.

On a more obtuse note, there has to be a rogue tyrannical dictator from some backwards 3rd world country thinking to himself “why spend millions of dollars.on nuclear weapons and uranium enrichment programs - when you can go to the local Wuhan markets on a Saturday, bag yourself 1kg of exotic bats for 100 RMB and that right there is your “weapon of mass hysteria, disease and confusion”.

My friend arrived in Thailand and noted that everyone is wearing masks. It sure might not be a good idea to travel to any Asian country at this stage.

Over 100,000 Chinese students will arrive in Australia over the next few weeks for the start of the Uni academic year.
Some first year students and some students returning after spending the holidays back home in China.
This will test how much bite this new virus has got - how widespread it is, how catchy it is, and how deadly it is.
My prediction is it will score 2 out of 10 in every category.
Make sure you don't slip in the shower, or get stung by a bee, or fall off a ladder, or get an infected toe nail, or swim in a rip, or whatever ... all these things can kill you stone dead.
And watch out for those killer African bees, and that Y2K bug, and those African gangs, and pedophile rings, and Satanists, and SARs of course, what a killer that was, killed 800 people out of 8 billion, wow so lethal ... one chance in 100.000.000 of it killing you LOL!
    Relax. Eat. Drink. Fuck. Be.
Something sooner or later is going to kill you, just make sure you have a fucking good time before it does.
And pray to God or Allah. or the Sun, or the Wind or whatever that something kills you while you are still having a good time ... the alternative is a very slow death by medical/pharmaceutical torture, dementia, old age, shitting you nappy/diaper, being a walking cadaver,

Enjoy the inevitable upcoming bargains Rooter. I predict punting to drop dramatically by the people who care about themselves and their friends and families. Sometime you gotta put others first.

Gregorious has made a valid point here.

There's no cure for this virus that has originated in China and therefore, what is the next best option? Prevention. If there is a risk of contracting the virus from someone who arrived from China after the outbreak of the virus, then it would be safer to abstain from punting or for some punters who still have the urge to see girls to go for other nationalities (i.e. non Chinese) or have not visited China in the last few weeks. However, if there is a girl working in a shop that has been exposed and is in close contact with other girls, she may pose a health risk to other workers. It sure is a real problem now.

agree. some reports estimate there were 5m who left w.h during the lunar New year, not that all of them are sick, but the potential for the virus to spread to people in other provinces is very high.

and u nailed it: deep down, pollies n biz people think more about lost revenue than lives.
