120 cases a day in Vic?
Where did you get that from?

Australia wide it is abut 30 a day and most of which are in Victoria. Take out the hotel quarantine cases and we are below 20. The 'source unknown' sits at just 24 for the last week across the whole of Oz.

So where do you get 120 a day?

It wasn't 120 a day. It was # active cases

"Victoria recorded 19 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the number of active cases there to 121. It follows four days of double-digit growth."

Ah, so why say "~120-odd cases / day"?

This is why I'm not punting in Melbourne at the moment, too much of a risk and hate to explain how I potentially got infected to the boss at home!

How stupid are the people running this show ?

It took far too long for the 14 day Hotel quarantine to start and it has been very successful, however if you test positive during your 14 days in the hotel you are simply told to go home and self isolate ... WTF

That was the main reason for bringing in the Compulsery 14 day lock up. Those people who are flying into the country and testing positive should be kept in iso until they are clear. It's not rocket science.

Does "being tested" confer immunity to the virus?
I may sound like a wet blanket, but it has to be said. This whole message of "we've tested millions of people and that's how we beat the COVID", is just governments trying to bring calm to the general population. Australia are doing it, so were China, Korea, etc. It is dangerous and gives a false sense of security.
Just use common sense... Someone getting tested and being negative today could be infected tomorrow. I know it's all based on probability etc, but it just means that the whole idea of testing figures being a source of security is fake. That's the unfortunate truth!
Now we see the folly of this tactic showing in the "second waves" in China and Korea. Is it really a second wave, or did the first wave never finish?

Yeah, it sounds like political speak, not what we need now. It makes the government look good compared to other countries, but gives a false sense of security to the public, causing them to flaunt distancing requirements and attend high risk events.

But that's the definition of 2nd wave

This virus is difficult to totally eliminate given asymptomatic carriers and overseas returnees (per the Vic hotel security staff).

The 2nd wave is when you take your foot off the restrictions - allow family gatherings, protests, bars/ restaurants, but the virus is still there in the background, and then boom 10+ cases.

Nah, been around yonks as ALG mentioned.

I'm just a little worried that some Victorians may travel north and screw up NSW's progress with Covid and we need to go back to lockdown.

Although the last 3 months was an experience in self enlightment, I don't really want to go through it again.

I miss my friends, ml and wls !

Actually, I wouldn't mind if NSW closed it's borders to VIC.

I really dislike how state and federal governments compare themselves to other states and countries, patting themselves on the back saying how good a job they have done to contain the virus.....it's not a competition.

If you ask them why they treat it as a competition, they’ll say “ Ask China “

Mate, yeah, 107 cases in one day is a big concern coming back from a near flat lined curve !

But put things into perspective, there were 188,831 new cases in the world yesterday! The top three countries were USA (44K), Brazil (35K) and India (24K) ! Respectively.

Yes, it’s 107 too many especially with cases coming out from those supposedly quarantine hotels which were quite unnecessarily and totally unacceptable. But let’s do what we know we can do best and push it back down, a bit of pain no doubt but we know it will pass if everyone work together.

Surely, aren’t we grateful that we have a more capable and reliable government as well as a much better health systems - and better people all round. Enough said ?

Let’s just be very careful out there, and enjoy the footy !

    Cheers

The Brazilian president was denying the existence of covid-19 and stating it was just a minor flu symptom. He was demanding people not wear masks. Maybe he wanted many homeless and poor people to perish in the slums. He got it. Serves him right!

The WLs in Germany are having it tough during this covid-19 pandemic. They were protesting because they were not being allowed to work despite Germany being open for business. If the states in Australia didn't allow WLs and brothel owners to trade I wonder whether they would be protesting on the streets just like German WLs and brothel owners.
