There may well be some avoiding testing but on the news it showed long queues of people waiting for hours to get tested. Is it just panic that is causing people to get tested when they have no symptoms or for the purpose of travelling? Even the NSW Premier was advising people who showed no symptoms to stay away from testing but many ignore his request.

Yes, the media have a lot to answer for a lot of the time but that is what sells news. Anyway, in the next few weeks we will probably all have caught it and the Doherty Institute advice of herd immunity will have done its trick.

The media really have a lot to answer for. If Victoria had 21000 cases today News Ltd would be attacking Dan Andrews nonstop. Yet Dom & the Liberal party get off Scott free. Speaking of Scott Morrison the idiot really needs to read the room or his advisors do. He has just given us a New Year’s Eve speech. We don’t want to hear from him. It’s New Year Eve for fucks sake. Though so did Albanese. In Victoria the media mostly news Ltd brainwashed the readers & apparently 3AW listeners & think Scott Morrison is doing a wonderful job. Mind you this is mostly everyone over 60.

Correct how so true. If it was Victoria, Dan is to be hang and burn in front of Victoria parliament.

And that is what is really worrying the medical community. The reckless push by Govt toward herd immunity. Many other countries have tried and failed with herd immunity.

The results were more sick, more deaths, lower confidence, lower employment and eventually negative economic output.

As epidemiologists have indicated. The more widespread a variant and the longer it spreads. The more chances of it mutating into more variants. We have seen that with Alpha, Delta, etc. Hence the approach to have large populations get infected with Omicron won't get us herd immunity, it will just create other variants.

    We aren't targetting here immunity.

We are staying the course on what was announced many months ago.
Protect the hospital system until sufficient people are vaccinated, then get on with life.

Looks like Omicron is less severe, which, along with high vaccination rates, hopefully means we can keep hospitalisation numbers down.

Domicron's strategy of just letting it rip looks like it's turning into a disaster, however.

You can get on with life with masks and QR codes. Masks don't stop "opening up" that everybody says needed to happen. The health advice was to wear masks but Dom pulling rank and his cock trying to win popularity votes.

Someone needs to tell that to ScoMo, Greg Hunt, Brad and Dom who is setting the strategy as "everyone will get Covid"... I wonder if that is not herd immunity, what should it be called ?

Also, when they say everyone will get Covid, they cannot guarantee ppl they will only get Omicron. What happens if they get Delta, etc ? You can't choose which virus you get exposed to...

It is the Doherty Institute that is guiding them. And yes it is herd immunity.

It's a vicious circle. The Doherty Institute gets paid to create a model based on requirements provided to them, in this case the prioritisation of economic factors over the impact to peoples health. But our leaders like to use that as an escape clause, that it's not them but the institute's model...

It's telling, now that they've objectively failed, that they're saying "everyone will get covid."
I don't recall them saying "everyone will get the flu" in the past, and therefore to just accept it.
I don't want to get covid, the flu, or anything else for that matter.

We're called "The Lucky Country" for a good reason. It is expressed in the book and I wholeheartedly agree, we get to where we need to be, not by means of adept leadership, but instead by sheer luck. Our Minister for Health is a lawyer by profession. He's not exactly "in his element", is he?
Same for DP, also a lawyer. Scomo... As far as I can tell, he's just a guy with an Econs degree who used to appear in Vicks Vapour Rub commercials, and somehow got into politics.

None of them actually have any expertise in managing a public health problem.

I guess that's why we have ministers / premiers / PMs, and then we have Health Officers. Now those ARE real qualified people with immense knowledge in their field of profession. They're doctors or have proper qualifications in health. All these politicians rely on them for their knowledge and well informed decisions.

That is why, when the politicians start diverging from the advice or opinions of the CHOs, the public should really be worried. It is a complete anomaly in the system.

Let's hope Lady Luck does continue to smile upon Australia to see us through this.

In the sense that you may only get the flu only every 3 or 5 years everyone also eventually gets the flu. With covid that will just happen quicker.

On another note, Missy Higgins during that often excellent ABC New Years Eve multiperformer concert, said "support us! We (the music industry) have so many live shows scheduled for the next six months." I wonder if they will be truly happening?

One thing about that NYE concert was how amazed and relieved I was to actually be seeing live music, even it was just on tv, it was still live and in the present.

15 Dec 2021 we had 166 in hospital and 24 in ICU. Today we have 1066 in hospital and 83 in ICU.

It's annoying that news media is not questioning why when the msg is Omicron is "mild" don't worry and just go out and catch it... Are they placing "mild" cases into the hospital ? Surely not ?

Hospital and Ambo staff are being forced to work even if they test positive.

How is that a sign our healthcare system is coping ?

Agree with Bro Goldfishman. The leaders of our country is fxxxxx. We need luck to get out of this death spiral now...
