    Thanks ScoMo!

Rather than putting those of us unemployed/stood-down due to COVID-19 to work on nation-building projects like irrigation pipelines to the drought-stricken Western Plains, or laying high speed rail lines across the nation, we get paid JobKeeper or additional JobSeeker to jerk-off while watching porn at home! How good is that Australia! Thanks ScoMo!

That's taxpayer's money, or debts to be paid off by taxpayers. Thank everyone one here who pays tax then.

The government is borrowing money to fund the jobseeker program. I wonder where they will get the money. The Victorian premier has done a deal with China to obtain loans to pay for many infrastructure projects which are all over budget. If they can't repay the loans, what's next?

I suggest going onto YouTube and search for economic hitman. Tells you exactly how US did it with other nations. China is exactly doing that especially in Africa where there are lots of rich materials and building infrastructure so they can mine their ores at a cheap price

National debt doesn't really mean much.
Some of the worlds richest nations have national debt at more than 100% of their GDP eg USA, Japan, Belgium.
And some of the worlds poorest countries have national debt of more than 100% of their GDP eg Sudan, Eritrea, Lebanon.
Australia and China are around the middle at 40 to 50%.
But basically every country rich or poor has a shitload of national debt.
The important thing is the country's potential for economic growth and capacity to eventually pay it.
Basically if your GDP grows at a steady rate over many years the debt relatively disappears.

Now Scomo is offering $25,000 grants to home owners to renovate their homes in order to stimulate the building and construction industry. It won't assist the battlers or low income earners out there only the wealthy homeowners. What was he thinking? Another pink batts disaster? Unfortunately, it can't go to brothels or RNT shops to renovate their business premises.

Unfortunately what he's offered is quite different to UBI, which is essentially a cash payment to all adult citizens regardless of asset, current income etc. I love to have some extra $$$ a month to punt 👍

On a side note, hope he ignore those idiots who want to extend the relief package to backpackers & overseas students.

The billions of stimulus is funded by a collusion between the federal gov and RBA who keeps interest rates artificially low and prints money to buy bonds issued to cover the deficit.

It will lead to significantly lower returns for the fixed income component of super funds and insurance companies. expect a smaller nest egg in retirement and surge in insurance premiums, which are rarely mentioned in the press for obvious reasons.

It’s started in Macau , now Beijing is doing the same, spending credits for all its people, that’s how you can stimulate the economy and benefits the majority especially the poor and elderly!

Just download the APP and spend !

Yeah I know it's not a proper UBI bro. It's sort of a lo-fat, lite UBI. I was having a laugh.
I was more highlighting how ScoMo has introduced policies totally opposite to his and the Liberal Party's ideology such as doubling Newstart/Jobseeker, paying people to stay at home and sit on their arse, free child care, government spending and government handouts galore.
I think that it is a credit to him that he actually listened to the experts (unlike with climate change where he didn't) rather than being guided by ideology or stubbornly sticking to dogma, and introduced these policies to avoid or at least minimise a major recession or even depression. He was pragmatic and realistic and that's a good thing.
Compare his approach to Trump who has fucked up both the health and economic aspects of the covid-19 pandemic and fucked up the race issues, because he won't listen to any advice and is so narcissistic that he thinks he knows more than any other person or organisation on the planet.
    I still support America though.
Even if America was led by a turnip it would still be better than most other countries in the world because it is a democracy (albeit an imperfect one) and not a military, totalitarian dictatorship.

I spent all the money on punting and got no money left to build a home.

ha! that's what they're hoping to achieve in Africa... but digging resources out of Africa may be one task, actually getting them to a port is a quite different matter. even if you're building the road and rail links. There are so many palms to grease that unless you're digging for diamonds, you won't have any margin left by the time your goods arrive late, damaged and/or partly pilfered.

Scomo is a fucking clown, if they want to stimulate the construction industry and if he had any brains at all they'd be looking to install solar to as many homes as possible, its a pretty simple thing to do and most builders/tradesmen could start doing it very quickly.

    Yeah it's for renovations too.
The renovation has to be over $150,000 though. That's a big renovation, not just a new kitchen.
    It's a grant, not a loan.
Go to the government website for all the details bro, don't rely on a punters' Forum

Personally, I think this scheme not a good one, been listening to the drive time radio most days and many opinions from the industry is that the tradies in general have enough works at the moment.

If the government really want to pops up the building industry, build more government housings and that would be a win win for both the industry and low income earners in needs, no ?
