Hey guys,
I've been noticing for a quite a while now that there's a big difference between the number of thread views and the actual posts. Sometimes there's hundreds of views and only a handful of answers!
Another way of looking at it is im not sure how many members we actually have, and then compare that to the number of views.
The thing is I actually don't get lurking! Why not just join the conversation and put your 2 cents in? It's fun and other people can benefit from your point of view! The forum is anonymous anyway!
Can some ex-lurkers also explain to me what is the psychology of lurking?
Thanks

i use to do a fair few reviews but i stopped because some unobtanium members act like such fuckwits. Eve when i was reviewing i'd say i would've done twice as many but i'd get home ready to review and someone would be carrying on so it would turn me off reviewing

I read the newspapers nearly every day, but I rarely write letters to the editor.

If a topic takes my fancy and I feel like throwing my 2 cents in, then I will.
If not, I'll read and move along quietly.
I've found that if I can't do a more balanced or neutral review best not to bother because the result will most likely be contentious.
If I think that I've found a bit of gem I might not share the experience because I'm selfish and I don't want her to get used up.
It seems youre right, many more views a thread gets vs how many contribute
And unlike a newspaper, and writing to the Editor, in an online forum you just have to move your index finger to post a comment.
Not much to it, but a 1000 excuses not to join the discussions
If we were all sitting at a table, and a few guys spent the whole night with heads down, eating and not joining the conversation, I would find that creepy imho sitting at that table
Some good viewpoints here. I'm starting to understand this now.
I guess I have a different mentality. I feel that if I can put my 2 cents in, then I'm contributing to the discussion and helping out the OP who has asked the question.
Plus, I enjoy it! It makes me think of happy memories and good times I've had!
