I’m sure more than one ML has studied accounting … a few come to mind
No punting related guys but can anyone recommend a good accountant that is willing to work outside the lines occasionally?
Not wanting to go and break a heap of laws but need someone that can show some discretion occasionally.

Most accountants will tell you can and cant do, and leave it up to you to break the rules. Unless you are doing something dodgy af
An accountant can only file your tax return based on the information you give him, he’s not responsible if you tell lies. He can claim anything for you, whether you would get into trouble later is another story.

Not worth it. Just pay your taxes. How can you sleep at night knowing you did something dodgy which you might get caught later on?
Though you can provide an accountant whatever you want but as people above has said, the accountants will ask for proof if the numbers are too much to take at face value.
If you're gonna do something outside of guidelines, best just do it on your own and suffer the consequences if caught.
There is ways to claim on a lot of things but be careful they will audit you sometime with needing more proof or documents to prove what you say when you lodge for that year.
You may make a claim and get a refund but the ATO can audits you up to 5 years and asks questions. Look at Trump CFO he is in trouble.
Also worth noting that each year the ATO picks a few industries to target and go hard on those.
A few cases recently accountants were held liable for client's indiscretions, so now they're being extra cautious.
If you enjoy the benefits of living here - pay your way... Australia strikes a pretty good balance between northern Europe's high taxing cradle to grave welfare and the US's low taxing - go it alone capitalism. Even in NZ (just like most of Asia) if you have any kind of chronic illness you can expect to die early from it than be treated for it in any other way than full cost recovery.
