    The casino thread

Occasionally, here and there, the casino would be mentioned, so I just thought I'd create one thread where all thoughts could be gathered.

So, which bros are regular casino punters? Care to share your story?

I got into it around 2008 when my friend took me there. In hindsight that was a big mistake. I won $30 in sic bo and the thrill began there. I somehow got into playing roulette. For sometime, I thought it was easy money, but the big losses started accruing. Over the years, I eventually went into debt...not sure exact figure, but I reckon I lost about $20k. This included losing my bankroll, then thinking "fuck it" and withdrawing more cash for a punt at a shop. Funnily enough, when I won, I wouldn't want to visit a shop because I didn't want to 'waste' my winnings.

I stopped gambling for a year which helped me recover financially, but started again after that. However, this time the addiction is not as bad, or deep. Instead of chasing big wins, I tell myself to be satisfied with a 10-20% return on my bankroll, and I leave. My friend said casinos hate people who hit and run, so I guess they hate me.

Since I have re-started gambling, I have probably made a slight profit. I still play roulette, but I guess with more self control, which is the main difference. I am also trying to quit, because deep down I know it is a dirty habit which will slowly kill me (house edge always wins).

I share your pain pm006. My pokie addiction is getting worse and worse ironically because I've been winning small amounts regularly like 100-200 here and there. Sometimes I win big, sometimes I lose big.

My problem is I'm really hooked so much so that I stoppedpunting lately because I'd rather put 100 in a machene than get a root. If I win, then the thrill is enough and I don't feel need to punt. Because as u say I better save the winnings as bankroll for next gamble

I rarely go but only bring few hundred if I do. No big deal if I lost but I will leave most time when I double the money. On some occassion I tripple or quadral my money. I alway spend all my winning to rewards myself. Never used the winning for a punt only because I start punting this year and thats right I haven't set foot in star city this year.

with the casino and also the pokies is once you win $200 or $300 you get out quick and don,t come back the next day. Also don,t drink when gambling.I have won plenty of times and lost it by not cashing in.

I know a rich guy that gambles all the time, he wins big and loses big but somehow manages to keep gambling. I'm thinking his parents must be cashed up or something because he doesn't seem to work or do anything.

my suggestion is stay SAFE.. i play roulette my budget for gambling is $100 once every month. I have my controls in gambling, dont play with huge money it will kill you if you lose then you start wanting a revenge to get it all back. with $100 start playing with a low bet $2 then make your way up to $5-$20 if you gained something. You'll easily win yourself double win. At the end its worth the punt money afterwards lol

I say I lost a couple 100K to them in the past live and learn. They are the house they will never loose. It was fun to win free money but once you started winning big 10K is minimum walk out for me which was a mistake to be a good gambler you must walk out even if you win $25 green chip

Bro I would love to give you some tips, cause this was my main downfall in hindsight.

Like IExperiment said, leave even if you are up by only $25. Why? Because the alternative is you can walk out minus $1000.

For me, I really started to gain an appreciation of money when I was in debt. I finally realised how hard it was to be 'given' money, and how easy it was for others to take it from me. It was easy for the casino, and it was easy for my credit card company, which not only imposed extremely high interest rate, but also stupid and useless transaction fees.

I thought, it is so easy for casino to take our $5, but if we asked them for $5, do you think they will give it to you? NO! So you need to really appreciate what you have achieved when you have managed to wrangle $5 away from the hands of the casino - DO NOT GIVE IT BACK.

Also, when you are in the middle of the game and are up $200, you might think, so little money, so keep playing. But $200 could feed you for a week, maybe a fortnight. And again, what is the alternative? You walk out with nothing. I'm sure you know that shitty feeling as you walk out of the casino, wondering why the hell you came in the first place. Capture that feeling and remind yourself how it feels next time you are up and thinking of continuing.

I hope this helps. Maybe I can give a more coherent response when I have not just woken up...

    Thanks all
    hi Brother,

What a day to bring up the casino thread, when hundreds of millions will be bet in the Cup and the Oz Lotto tonight!!

Winning stories at the casino......haha i have plenty, but for every $1,000 i won and walked away with, i probably dropped 10 times more in the next few days!!

How many times i walked away from the casino with no money left in my wallet and all the credit cards, ATM cards were max out. Its a long, sad and lonely ride home on the train, and so much regrets and disappointments and hate against myself......!!

I have stopped going to the Star City since 2007!! Thank God for that! I still visited casinos when i was inter states but those one off damages were usually ok vs 6 days a week after work when i was a gambling addict before!

Trust me, if you dont go, you are a winner already!!

Just my $$$,$$$ worth of opinions

    Cheers

thanks for sharing the sobering stories, I was fearing that I was getting sucked in with no way out - betting bigger and bigger each day, can lose up to 500 but the next day win 700 then lose 400 then win 500 then lose 700 etc etc I actually considered stopping many times after a big loss but couldn't handle it and went back and got very very luck with a big win each time off very small gamble doing stupid things like gambling red/black 3x in a row to go from 50 feature win to 400 cos I'm desperate. people standing around me think i'm crazy and big balls but in reality just lucky and desperate. You guys are giving me some perspective of where shit can go wrong...

I'm getting up to the point where winning is not even fun or exciting anymore, I just expect to win to stay feeling normal but if I lose or don't gamble at all I get very restless. The only good thing is that my gambling addiction really put a stop to my punting addiction, before this I punted 3 days in a row and it wasn't exciting either except for the final punt where i had gfe FS experience at a massage shop for 80 all inclusive.

I hate the casino because i find it depressing. That being said when i have gambled there i have usually won playing blackjack mainly. Im only a small time gambler, just a few hundred is my max limit.

I never gamble where I live - keeps the wallet full (well, half full anyway as the other half is spent on Asian cuties).

I made a pact with myself a few years ago. I only gamble in Vegas.
Been there seven times since and I have a set gambling budget when I go.
Twice I've left with more money in pocket than going in. Other times it's been money gone, but a lot of good times had.

Sorry, just wanted to preface my earlier posts - I am in no way encouraging gambling. In fact, I think introducing your non-gambling friends to the casino is the worst thing you could do to them. I would only save that for my worst enemy, and maybe not even that.

However, if you must gamble, then I'd stress extreme self control. I learned this the hard way. Everything in the casino is designed to help you lose self control, so you must fight it at every moment - be conscious, be wary, and be sober.

Such a long time not posting but everyone is sharing in this thread , so I guess it's time i should share a bit of my personal experience with bros' here ...

Well I stopped gambling after I came back from my holidays in malaysia , used to gamble for a living , not the best way as its not something proud and not something worth talking about .. I gamble cause I think I could change my future and living standards, yes it did , I was bringing 10k per session , walking away mostly 1k is my target , yes sometimes I lost like a good 5-8k just to win $500 , arh it's sounds silly but that's the world of gambling ... U can win $1k in 5 minutes , in return , also I can lost $10k within half an hour ... So it's common ...

I quit gambling now and is looking for something small to do , planning to do a small business of selling food , but starting capital is too high and I can't afford it , well it's life , maybe I'm just waiting for the correct guy to partner or able to be my boss to start a business , after all I'm new in the industry and have a veteran in doing business ...

Once a girl told me , to be with a gambler is rather to be with a pauper , at least she don't have fake hopes from you , this is what hurt me and changes my attitude on gambling ...

My record , starting with a capital of $5k , my biggest capital increases to $150k , but I also lost myself, lost nearly 100k then I stopped.. Biggest wining in a time, in GENTING malaysia , brought aud1k won 15k in half an hour with my aunt ... In the end gave the money away to my grandma and mom ...

Now .. Just a very very normal life doing not much at the moment ... Waiting for chances ...

Good night guys, hope u enjoy my stupid story , not punting a lot , just a few times with 1-2 regulars ...

Gambling is a vice, like hard drug, one of the greatest social levellers, we face. Punters hooked on gambling and drugs end up the same (if not worse), than a junkie, homeless dude on the street.....WITH NOTHING!
Best to stick to punting ML and WL's as this is money better spent!
Actually, there's a burger place at Star City that sells hot chips for $6 (highway robbery), but better spend your hard earned there than inside (best chips in Sydney!).
