Definitely a jazz tune with a 5/4 time signature (hence its title), quite unusual for its time. There's another jazz tune in that vein titled Take Ten, showcasing the 10/8 time signature. Both were brainchildren of Paul Desmond, who played saxophone for Dave Brubeck's band
