Corruption is serious shit.
She had to go.
She knows it which is why she has resigned not just as Premier but from the parliament and politics completely.
Scott Morrison and his corrupt cronies have done much worse than Gladys.
They are lucky there is no ICAC in Canberra or they would all be out on their arse and maybe in jail.
That is why they voted against setting up an ICAC Federally.
And yes there are plenty of corrupt cunts in the Labor Party too.The previous Labor Government in NSW was a disgrace.
The hard line against corrupt politicians in Australia is a strength of our democracy and civil society.
Corruption might be considered acceptable or even normal in a lot of countries, but that’s a weakness of their system not ours

Not saying she's clean or not, but just because someone was not caught doesn't mean they're clean. You think all our past premiers were clean?
Then think about what Gladys has had to deal with for a good portion of her tenure, nothing short of the worst crisis the state has ever seen. What did those other past premiers have to deal with? All those are now enjoying $370k a year of taxpayer's money to fund their offices and chauffeur driven limos, for doing nothing even close to what GB has had to do.
Let's not pass judgement before having any facts, that's all I'm saying. As far as I know, based solely on what is known, she's done far more for the state than any previous premier's only for all the hardwork to go to waste now due to this investigation. That alone is not fair in my opinion.

It hasn't been proven yet and they can only recommend charges. They recommended charges against Nick Greiner and he had them cleared in Court. Should be interesting how it pans out. Richo thinks they won't get her.

As treasurer she brought the state budget back into surplus.
As premier she brought the state back from the dark ages with infrastructure spending on road, rail, stadiums which are still creating jobs.
She has had the misfortune of disasters like the bushfires, floods and pandemic. I think she's done more for NSW than any other premier since Wran.
She's not perfect but she's been the best we've had for a long long time.

People complain about her a liberal being corrupt. She was in love with a guy who was corrupt and she didn't want to know about his business dealings where as other woman are still in love with partners who are abusive so loves clouds peoples judgement. Labour is just as corrupt, just need to look at their dealings and support of unions who leaders are real dodgy people with links to the underworld

Not necessarily, icac can only refer her to the police if they believe charges should be laid. Imagine the fallout if they don't have the evidence to refer her to the police. Or if she is referred to the police and a court doesn't convict her? Imagine the fallout. I can see a mini series when this is over.

It could be even uglier if the next Premier also completely fucks up the reopening and they couldn't produce the evidence of corruption on GB. There will be a real reckoning on their heads of that scenario eventuates, nothing short of a nightmare for them.

I think it is a totally different situation this time. ICAC itself is under scrutiny as well because of its lack of prosecutions, budget and referrals to the police that don't hold up in court . The fact of ICACs timing and the community support Gladys has, plus she has really done what plenty of others have done. She has the sympathy vote which Barry O'Farrell didn't have so I think it will be a different scenario this time if she isn't found guilty.

I don't know about you but I personally had no recollection of Barry O'Farrell or what he did for the state, seriously. Maybe it's because he was never required to front the media at 11am every morning to give updates on a state wide health crisis, everyday for at least 3 months. Or maybe because he never had to deal with a bushfire crisis of historic proportions.

How about Nick Greiner then? Another Liberal premier who quickly resigned when the focus of ICAC turned towards him.
He was a popular and successful premier... and in fact founded ICAC.
No charges, and as far as ICAC was concerned no shit hitting any fans.

Gotta realise that most ICAC referrals will never lead to convictions or even charges. The way ICAC gathers evidence is often inadmissible in court and the standard to make a finding is different to a conviction in criminal cases (balance of probabilities vs beyond reasonable doubt).

There's also a lot of corruption that may not necessarily be against the law. Take for example passing a whole bunch of laws that favour the banking industry and then quitting to take up a job with the banking industry after. Technically not against the law but definitely wouldn't pass the sniff test.

I didn't say she shouldn't be investigated, it is the timing of doing it that's the problem. This case has been known for a year, what's the difference in waiting a few more months for the state to get through this crisis with the same leader before doing it? It's not like she's going to skip town, is she?
If they had started the investigation when the case was started on her ex-BF it would've been still ok on them. She would've left the role before all this. GBs profile in the hearts and minds of NSW people wouldn't have grown as much as it has, nor would she have had to do the hardwork of dealing with the lockdown.

So then ICAC becomes a political organisation, picking and choosing the timing of its announcements to favor certain politicians depending on circumstances?
This is what top silk and former counsel assisting ICAC Geoffrey Watson SC had to say about the timing:
"I think it's actually a great moment for ICAC because it's shown, yet again, it doesn't care how powerful the person is, it doesn't care how popular the person is, it does the right thing," he said.
"I saw that the Premier criticised the timing of it, I couldn't disagree more.
"The timing is perfect, this is exactly the point in our history when we want our politicians placed under close scrutiny."

He's let the cat out of the bag a bit, hasn't he? That statement all but admits that there was an element of timing in it. That was the wrong statement to make. It doesn't help make the ICAC look any better, instead it has made it worse by implying that they did not simply act immediately upon knowing a new piece of information.

It might be easy to think that, but a decision to conduct a public enquiry has to be made by 2 of the 3 commissioners. There's also an Inspector of the ICAC who is independent from them and is supposed to ensure that they don't become politicised. To top it all off the current 3 commissioners of the ICAC were appointed by the current government. So if anything they'd owe Gladys.

NSW Voluntary preferential voting system... your obscure candidate selection will most likely be exhausted.
Preferences or not it's still largely a major party 2 horse race.
Exactly this. However, it is certainly not unique to NSW. Almost every "democratic" election invariably becomes a 2 horse race. Go figure. I'm no expert in the matter, but if you look at it purely from a voter's perspective, say a "strong" third party were to emerge out of nowhere. Would you use your one and only vote on that 3rd party? Remember, you wouldn't know if there would be millions more people like you who would vote for the new party, but you do know that there would be millions others who would vote for either of the 2 existing major parties. If very few people voted for that 3rd party, then you would've wasted your vote.
There are other intricacies like majority seats, balance of power, king makers, etc... The system makes it feel like, if you voted for a small party, you might end up getting something you didn't bargain for. Say your guy ends up being king maker and then favours the exact party you hated. You have no control over that outcome.

All this outpouring of grief over Gladys's resignation, anyone would think she died.

You must be living under a rock then.
I can name several:
1) A lot of infrastructure projects. Metro trains and Light rail (i know everyone hates light rail but George Street is pedestrian's paradise right now). WestConnex.
This is a huge deal because before her NSW Infrastructure was crumbling.
2) Opal Card got implemented on her watch.
2) Overturned Bar curfews (though she took her time to do so)
3) Fronted the media through Bushfires
4) Fronted the media through Pandemic ( for 18 months with questions after questions from media dicks and cunts)
Constant Head fuck for 18 months; let see you take that without lashing out like a bull.
5) Up until 4 months ago we were able to go to the city like normal and kept our economy intact while doing so.
6) Her opponent didn't even have proper plan. That's the reason she lost in a landslide.
7) Kept her cool when continually bombarded with questions from skynews journo (This alone is commendable; I would have p*nched the daylight out of that guy).
Hate all you want...But she is one of the best we had...At least far better than most of them.
What does she have to do?

1) Sydney metro blew out more than $3 billion and killed CBD traffic. Westconnex (tolls to be collected for the next 40 years) blew out by $1.5 billion. Billions of dollars.
2) Opal was fraught with issues and loopholes cost us more than before ending up with us losing millions. It was scrapped quickly for use of normal bank cards. Opal was a failure.
2) (well 3)) If she's all about the economy it wouldn't have taken years to get rid of lockout laws. You're really grasping at straws if this was your number 3 behind the last 2 failures.
3) Her government reduced funding to the RFS before this fire season and this had a direct impact on the outcome. Fronting a media presser for something you had a hand in is not an accomplishment.
4) Ruby princess.... "Based on health advice" "we'll release the health advice" *cough* "we're not releasing the health advice" - Hazzard. Her approach to the pandemic was economy focused. Same with the new Premier. Be economy focused or don’t, just be honest about why you’re doing what you do.
5) For the last 4 months we have not been able to keep the economy stimulated anywhere near where we could have if proper action was taken. Think of the NSW economy holistically beyond your "got to city like normal".
6) You're talking about an election years ago, I'm unsure of your long bow point. I'm not at all sure why this comes into conversation now.
7) Again, a few questions of scrutiny means she's great? She was portrayed as the woman who saved the country...... before we hit 1599 cases in a day.
This is only a simple rebuttal to what you attempted to say. Nothing about her actual failures.

He appears to be still stuck in his old job of Treasurer, still all focused on the economy and nothing else (?). When the journo grilled him about Chant's absence from his presser, that the CHO needs to be there because it's a health crisis, he countered that by saying we're also in an economic crisis. Does that mean he's there to fix the economy, like that's his only job... Leave the Health stuff to the CHO? WTF man...
He needs to come to terms real quick with his new job and the additional responsibilities that come with it or we're fucked!

You think I watch Fox News and Sky News, don't you?
Yeah, mine was a rebuttal.
It was as much a rebuttal as yours.
You think blowing a budget by few billion dollar makes her a failure. Almost all government projects lose money.
I see the positive thing that came out of it. We now have a metro train line for the first time and a lot more infrastructure work in the pipeline.
And by the way, who started with the insults first?
And my comment was for bittybittybitty and his question: How she is so popular?
What got your knicker on twist?
Nobody asked for your rebuttal.

No, I don’t. Projecting maybe?
I didn’t say you watch fox news, I said you suck daddy Murdochs cock and that’s all you use as a source. That extends beyond fox/sky.
Yours was not a rebuttal, mine was. If you don’t understand what the word means then please google it. Your response to my rebuttal was that I needed to add additional points on another narrative. Again, that’s not what a rebuttal is. If you’re asking me to add reasons why she’s useless then that’s different. She’s done a lot worse things above what I responded to your comments with. Hell, the second best point you had was the Opal card :/. Again, that’s not part of a rebuttal.
If you would like reasons as to why she was a shit premier, then again, it’s a different question.
Blind low IQ people like yourself are why we have the situations we’re in. You posting comments on an open forum ARE to be subjected to criticism. It’s almost like you think criticism of thought is a bad think. The NSW government is with you in that.
No, I don’t. Projecting maybe?
I didn’t say you watch fox news, I said you suck daddy Murdochs cock and that’s all you use as a source. That extends beyond fox/sky.
Again, what is your obsession with Murdoch's cock and balls?
Use Murdoch's as a source? Get the fuck out of here.
That's the thing you think you are smart but you are really not.
Let me tell you again: I don't follow fox/sky or any Murdoch's media for that matter.
Hell, I am not even into politics.
How can anyone presume that based on my few comments is beyond me?
If you’re asking me to add reasons why she’s useless then that’s different....

Oh dude!...I wasn't asking you anything at all...Actually I am regretting that I even commented...
All this useless back and forth which you think is constructive argument.
How about this?
You win!
She is shitty. She is the worse.
I am convinced.
I don't know about my IQ being low (Glad that you are analyzing people's IQ based on few comments; It's internet anybody can say and do anything right?).
But I am smarter than you to know when things have run its course and time to let it go.

Wait, are you actually a GB supporter and trying to use some kind of reverse psychology here?
1. Sydney Metro was in planning since early 2000s, build started in 2013. GB took office in 2017. If anyone had a major hand in it as Premier, it would've been Barry O'Farrell and Mike Baird.
2. Opal card is even worse. System went online in 2012! Was initially full of problems, only in the last few years has it become much better with the ability to use credit cards added.
3. RFS funding reduction, who's call was that? The Premier or the Treasurer? Guess who's the current Premier?
Yeah, you actually failed to mention ANY of her real mistakes and instead made her look a lot better!

Not one bit a supporter. My response was only responding to the points made. I did not go into the the bigger failures. I did mention that.
I don’t blame her for the metro, I said you can’t use it as something she did well. The Opal card was even worse, it’s not a hard one to counter when said as a positive. The government under old bin chicken screwed the RFS (yep, the new tit and Barilaro did the work) but again, it was just a counter to what was posed as a positive.
It’s not hard to make her look bad.

How did the metro "kill CBD traffic"? It is not even in the CBD yet, apart from a couple of building sites which have no affect on traffic. It will be underground when operating, how does that affect traffic?
Opal has not been scrapped, and it definitely hasn't been a failure. There were a few loop holes but the travelling public benefitted. Normal bank cards are a convenience, but can't be used by people on concessions. Its value lies in the data it collects, which is used in service planning.
Do some research into the T-card which Labor tried to introduce a few years earlier - there was a failure of massive proportions

I think Bmal is referring to light rail as killing CBD traffic. This was Gladys’ project when she was Transport Minister and she it did to appease the Greens and Clover Moore who still think the world will end next year because of the climate emergency. There was no need for this project at all. Those Spanish contractors really took her for a ride and went cup in hand for another $500 million as they underquoted to get the job

Personally, I think GB’s policy on COVID has been a success until Delta arrived in June and that’s a totally different kind of beast.
She and Dr Chant did the right thing when Crossroad Hotel started, which more or less avoid the same situation as Victoria, they did a quick lockdown of the Northern Beaches Peninsula and largely kept the rest of Sydney protected before last Christmas.
They underestimated the spread of Delta and we are in the mess that we are in now, even then, I think she turned that around by leading NSW towards the 80% fully vaccination and the road to freedom ahead of the rest of the country. That’s unless you prefer the shutdown policy like WA, SA and Queensland?
GB ain’t perfect but who has any experience in dealing with a pandemic ? and now Delta and heaven knows what’s coming next.
Just saying it.

I have to admit, I really liked the monorail. It was fun to ride, lots of things to see. Unfortunately it was not "scaled" properly... Too limited in capacity, resulting in the price being too high to use it. Ultimately made it not economically viable.

I originally shared your view brother suka in regards to the Lightrail in the city ! Like what were they thinking? Tried to copy Melbourne?
But then when the Lightrail is actually running and me and my Mrs had a few ride on them, I must admit I have now changed my mind and turned into a supporter of the project.
Firstly , as we are Gold Opal card holder, it’s very cheap for us to ride on it.
Secondly, I can’t do too much walking these day so if doing some shop in the CBD or anything (pre Covid), we would take a ride on it one way or both and just enjoying the resting.
Did it a few times to go to Kensington and enjoying the food there. Much easier than driving and looking for parking.
May be it’s just me ?
Ps. And the Lightrail to the Darling Harbour, Casino and the Fish Market, that’s the only way too ?

I'm on the fence about the Lightrail. They don't call it Trams for a reason: they don't want the public to remember that once upon a time, Sydney had the largest tram network in Australia, more than double the size of the existing Melbourne network. And they don't want people to remember that that network was scrapped not because it wasn't good enough for the people of NSW, but because they accepted the advise of "overseas experts" who were aligned with big oil and automobile companies.
That was a really embarassing point in our history and fair enough that they just want to forget about it and move on. However, what have we got now? Instead of giving Sydney what it really needs, namely a wide and far reaching network with small trams running to service the thinly spread out population, they have instead built a concentrated network with large "trams" benefiting only a few along that limited route.
What's the motivation of doing something like that? It's really questionable is it not?

The trams in Sydney was before my time, so no idea……… lol
Love the trams in Melbourne, especially all the free ride in the CBD. One thing I think Melbourne is doing much better is that the trams and motor traffic can run side by side as the roads are much wider. I don’t like the idea of no cars along George St - but I guess it’s all for safety? If there’s an accident, the trams are much smaller to be removed where the giant Lightrail in Sydney will be blocking the whole line a long time ?
One thing though, the current Lightrail have not yet been tested with overseas tourists yet, would be their moment of truth if they would be popular and can breakeven or make money in the long run.

Bro, neither am I old enough, lol! It's all documented here... Very interesting read if you're interested:

I guess they couldn't implement the same method for handling traffic as in Melbourne because the Lightrail trams are too long and slow moving. Imagine doing hook turns with the Lightrail trams, it'd be complete chaos waiting for that beast to cross the intersection!

Before Covid struck Melbourne, Dan’s ace transport planning department didn’t plan for over 150,000 international students living and working in the CBD and inner city areas and using trams everyday. The tram network just about collapsed. If there was a problem, Dan would just blame the private operator. It was impossible to get on a tram in the mornings or afternoons as they were so full. I would wait and wait for a tram on St.Kilda Road at 5.30pm before deciding to leg it. The other problem was that as the trams were so packed, no one could get to the machines to tap on, so the majority of international students became fare evaders. LOL. This was typical of the way Dan’s departments ran in the socialist paradise.
The light rail systems in Gold Coast, Adelaide, Newcastle and Canberra have been total flops as no one uses them. A case of one upmanship or my dick is bigger than yours. Keeping the inner city Greens happy as we aren’t apparently using cars. Hahaha

THe Gold Coast system is well patronised, I rode on it recently; so successful, they need to extend it.
Adelaide's line has been around for almost 90 years, and recently upgraded, it just needs more development along the line to take advantage of it. Canberra's patronage is building up well, and will improve when the xtensions are built.
Newcastle's is a flop, will only improve if it is extended.
Sydney's eastern lines were carrying 1.5M per month prior to the lockdown, how is that not successful?

Did it a few times to go to Kensington and enjoying the food there. Much easier than driving and looking for parking.
May be it’s just me ?
Enjoyed food in Kensington? I live there and very disappointed at the choices. Couple of good cafes, open til lunch time? Greasy take away chicken shop, couple of 7/11s, dodgy old Chinese place. Maybe you mean Kingsford?
Lucky I've got a MILFy RnB shop nearby to amuse me.

I always thought that section outside of UNSW is Kensington, it’s probably Kingsford.
My favorite is Albee’s Kitchen !

That's Kingsford. Kensington finishes at UNSW.
Agree Albee's is great. It changed hands a few years ago, it was even better before.

Of course it's successful. Who wouldn't use a nice modern tram service if it was available in your neighbourhood.

I used to live a little further south of here.
I'm taking a friend to eat at Kingsford on Sunday. Do you recommend anything? I was thinking the Indonesian restaurant ayam something

Ayam Goreng 99. Looks like it is still going.
So many places closed or changed over the last couple of years due to lack of Asian students at UNSW. Haven't been down that way for while.

HahahaThat's not a Melbourne or Dan issue. If you look at Sydney it's the same. Before Covid, every morning people would be fighting to get onto the lightrail from Central station. After office hours the same happens in the other direction. Many times ppl gave up and found that it was faster to just walk to their destination or take a bus or the normal train.
Another note is why in this day and age are we still using such a old an outdated technology like trams ?? It takes forever to go from Central to Circular Quay. The same trip on normal trains would have ferried like 5 round trips and more easily. Plus underground trains won't cause any traffic accidents with cyclist, cars, etc.

Trams are not "outdated", they're not useful in the current form because of the Govt's "vision". Their vision is a network made up of very few lines with huge trams running those lines, but that completely contradicts a lot of the benefits of using trams.
The first benefit is the fact that the tracks are relatively easier to lay than other forms of transport.
Compare the difficulty of laying an above ground tram track against digging a tunnel to lay an underground train track. Or compare it against setting up an elevated monorail line.
The other benefit of trams is it is relatively easy to scale up the size of the transports on the lines. You want bigger trams to hold more people, you just scale up the trams and the power. With a monorail, you'd be constrained by the max load on the line itself. Underground trains are a different story though. There, you'd be looking at a negative constraint: the line would've been so costly to build, you would be hard pressed to justify running smaller trains on them.
Last benefit of trams is they're not constrained by the method of power delivery. Sure, at the moment batteries and all that tech are not strong enough to power a tram, necessitating the need for overhead power lines. But, imagine if some time in the future the tech is good enough so that you can run trams on battery power, solar power or a combination of them. Then you wouldn't need power lines, all you need are good solid tracks.

And then if you took away the tracks too, you’d have…

Trams can run on batteries, but need boost charges at regular intervals along the lines. This can be done with overhead type connections at stops. The Newcastle line does this using super capacitors for storage which are flash-recharged in about 30-40 seconds at each stop.
Batteries are not really power efffective because they are heavy and require up to 10% of their capacity to move their own weight.

Correct - buses, very long, flexible buses. That aren’t constrained in where they can go. Hmmm… 🤔

A couple of years ago, I guess. A friend went there and came away disappointed, she said "new owners". Maybe just a bad day. I've been a couple of times since and didn't notice any different.
Btw, if you guys really wanna try good Indonesian food, try "Medan Ciak" restaurant.
I don't think there is one near Kensington though
But there is one on the way to Ginza and few around the city.
