Looks like Frydenberg might even lose his own seat, sad outcome for a sitting treasurer really.

The swing to Independent and Green is showing that a lot of people are utterly sick of the nonsense we've put up with from both parties.

That will guarantee the Liberals will stay in opposition :)
Liberals will implode after this election loss.
The loss of their crown jewel seats in the posh suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne will really hurt them.
Will be a civil war in the party that has been brewing for years and was only suppressed because they were in government.

It's kinda ironic that the Libs lost seats because they basically adopted policies of the Nationals but it cost the Nationals nothing. I hope the Libs have the gumption to operate as an independent party in opposition and leave the Nats to their own devices.

No way that’s gonna happen. The entire democratic system would have to be revamped. For example, the majority government concept, passing new legislation in parliament, all that stuff would have to be reworked.

I love the idea of independents.
But I don’t like the idea that a few independents now control the entire Australia when the majority didn’t vote for them. The whole system needs an overhaul.
I love greens as well but I don’t love any party including greens who feels like you can just hand away free money. So people not realise we need to pay for all this spending somehow. You can’t just start taxing people.

The problem Albo now faces is that to get his policies into legislation he has to get the co-operation of the greens and/or the independents so the back room dealing will be a constant thorn in his side. He'd probably be better dealing with the teal independents as at the moment they seem a bit better than the looney left greens.
The big problem for the libs is that they've lost a lot of the moderates in this election so naturally they'll move further to the right. Liberal head office has to start today to pick new LOCAL candidates and get them working the hustings every day until the next election if they have any chance at all at the next election.
They're making the GG earn his pay as he has to swear in Albo, Penny Wong and the Deputy PM today as he and Penny have to leave for the AUCUS meeting tomorrow and you have to be officially sworn in to represent or lead the country.

Australia needed the change, after dealing with a weak narrow-minded government, that allowed the states to imprission and criminalise unvaccinated people standing up for their rights,
i hope they start criminal investigations into the amount of corruption that took place during this time, Especially into the Politicians that took kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies for imposing mandates that raised stock prices,

So what specific policies did we all vote for that are going to set us up for success as a society over the next decade and more?
For me, it was more about what I did Not vote for. I did not vote for a Gov whose only strategy for tackling the housing crisis was to let you use your own future money to pay for a house, the price of which will certainly rise by the same amount. It will, you don’t need to be a genius to figure it out. Take a look at what happened to property prices when SMSFs were allowed to purchase investment properties.
That’s got to be the most amazingly stupid idea I’ve ever heard. Fix a demand and supply issue, by increasing the demand!
GoldfishMan
22-05-2022, 11:22 AM
Would have made very little difference to the housing market as superannuation balances are so low in the first home owner home bracket and rules around access and return would end up meaning very few could use it and house prices wouldn’t catch a sneeze from it.
But anyway - still curious to know if, as voters, we are clear on what specific policies we voted for and how they are going to make a difference.
I disagree. For one thing, the fact that they could propose such a solution tells me that their general approach to fixing the problem is to throw more money at it. This time it’s the super, next it could be some other source of funding. Salary sacrifice? Increase the super limit to tap into? The population will end up being enslaved to the banks, with ever growing mortgage debts that would never be paid off.
The other thing is you might think 50k was a small amount compared to the price of property, but that’s the amount people can use for only the deposit, not the full price. That means the impact of adding that 50k is almost certainly not going to be just an increase of 50k on the full price of the property, it could be a lot more than that depending on borrowing capacity, etc.
Vader
22-05-2022, 11:34 AM
I agree it’s a bullshit solution.
But what do you think of the labor solution and the comparative impact?
Labor's solution would have exactly the same impact on prices. Plus there will be more pressure on housing when they increase immigration.
GoldfishMan
22-05-2022, 11:39 AM
I agree it’s a bullshit solution.
But what do you think of the labor solution and the comparative impact?
Labour doesn’t even have a solution, ROFL. That idea where the Gov will take on a percentage of the debt will never be implemented. Too radical an idea with no technical framework to support it. How is it going to be implemented? A government bond type of thing, or are the banks going to need to put a process in place where the Gov is somehow one of the borrowers in a mortgage? How does the debt get paid off, in what sequence, government portion first?
So my opinion is their solution is a non-solution. The property market will continue as market forces dictate. Like I said, they were simply the lesser of two evils.

Why no government ever willing to commit for more supply ??
The State government should be the biggest long term housing developer and set some restrictions on these units to limit the sale prices and foreign ownership and investment property .
Why can’t we learnt from the Singapore government, we have plenty of land and enough money to build. Let the Australian people own their own home which they can afford and own them for 99 years. It’s a great policy !

The economy will be fucked over the next few years.
Trillion dollar debt, rising interest rates, rising inflation, major stock market correction overdue.
The only good statistic of low unemployment is a mirage just due to the borders being closed over the last 2 years.
It will also quickly rise again as things open up.
So whether Morrison or Albanese or a chimpanzee is in charge will make no difference.
Next few years will be tough.
But the Libs already have the script written for the next election “See, we told you Labor can’t run the economy”. Politics is a nasty business.

They will welcome back the boats and bring China back in the fold and punish the corporate sector, the wealthy and small business owners to pay for the give away.
Not sure what the answer is Scomo was a fukwit.
I would like a Gov to come out and say tough times we will not be spending and trying to buy votes. We will treat everyone the same and not punish people that had a go to feed the lazy cunts

Point 1:correct. Point 2: depends a lot on Treasurer Jim Chalmers. He is a Queenslander which indicates small c conservative, whatever your party. A Catholic, therefore another c, and a huge admirer of Keating which is broadly encouraging. The role of Finance Minister is crucial, unimportant in opposition, but Peter Walsh's savagery in eviscerating Departmental budgets made him the most hated, and one of the best in the Labor party in the Hawke/Keating years. I doubt whether the current Finance spokeswoman Katy Gallagher from the ACT, a Sociology expert will get the gig. A hardcase is essential in this role to support the Treasurer.
The chicken little's have been following the Murdoch script too closely, it's gonna be tough, but not much different whoever is running the show.
One really good point: Barnaby can kiss all those bribes from Scotty goodbye. If the Libs have any sense they will break with the Nats in opposition.

Come back to this thread 4 years from now when Labor have messed everything up....socialism never ever works....enjoy your 4 years of regional jobs lost/crazy power prices all in the cause of virtue signalling on emissions...enjoy your taxes being hiked to subsidise EVs for rich people and to pay for hand outs to lazy benefits harvesters who just got off the boat...enjoy your kids having race and gender theory brainwashing in kindie and then can't count or write when they reach 18...enjoy the govt taking on debt that your grandchildren have to pay off....enjoy all the quotas at work that see less qualified than you become your boss just because they female....enjoy being the victim of crime and the criminals escaping punishment......you'll be begging peter Dutton to fix it all
It’s only 3 years, one would think someone with such a strong political view point would know that.
As for debit, I am guessing you are ignoring all the debit the liberals have piled on the last 9 years, and here is a hint a good deal of that was racked up before covid hit. What’s that tell ya? Yup you read too much of the Daily Terrorgraph and listen to 2GB.

Going by the sentiment here, it sounds like the LNP should’ve had a leadership spill before the elections to switch to a different “horse”, just like the last election. That appears to be the “winning formula” in Australia.
Taking bets now: who thinks Albo would still be ALP leader / PM by the time of the next elections?
I really do ,I have a big close family, what more do you want, I kinda feel sorry for uneducated narrow minded morons like you who have nothing but a warped ideology about everything in life, go back to your tree house...Last post on this.. see ya
