It is actually common for many thai ML and WL to retire into pubs with pokiew. I can count a few.

Very similar story for me. I did date a Thai gal back in '86 but it was a one off and I had a great time staying with her family in Thailand then too. Met my absolutely stunning Indian wife not long after so I never had time to think about what I was missing.
