I usually ask if the back entrance is available as an option but if the front is clear then I just go in from the front. Unless you're the shop/residence across the road or someone is watching the door intentionally, no one is paying attention to you

As you would be going to a private provider, presumably in an apartment, the secured entrance
would be the only choice.

As most places seem to be on main roads I definitely go in & out the back ( no pun intended ) . You never know who is walking or driving by.

Have to admit, a back door is better at times. Nothing more awkward than standing on a main street waiting for them to open the door.
