Read article here and think hard before you have BBFS in Asia: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-04/sex-tourism-my-father-s-secret/104056506
Then watch 4Corners on iVew. Very expensive bareback fun, boys.

"Sex work is big business in the Philippines, but with contraception often not used in the country and abortion illegal, there can be long term consequences.

Men from overseas — including Australia and New Zealand — are estimated to have fathered tens of thousands of children to sex workers. Most of the children have never been acknowledged and have been raised in poverty.

Now, thanks to a trailblazing Australian-led project, the children's DNA is being used to identify their sex-tourist fathers, track them down, and demand child support.

In a co-production with the UK's Clover Films, Four Corners meets the children, their mums, and the dad-hunters as they find the missing men and hold them to account."

How would they track down the father? Like his DNA would have to be recorded somewhere?

Guess you'd have to be in some DNA database for some reason, notably the criminal database?

Not sure if the privacy surrounding voluntary DNA databases?

Child support and taxes seem to be immune to the privacy laws

My neighbour at work has a child in the Philippines but he already looks after her and her mother.

I'm also wondering how they can get your DNA, if you're a criminal then its there for law enforcement agencies. But if you don't have a criminal record how can they get it? Wouldn't your blood tests form part of the doctor patient privilege?

if you have ever done a dna test through ancestry or any other company they can get it from them.

For all those asking about the DNA, some people do that ancestry.com where they can share that information in a database.

There is a documentary on Netflix called "our father" that talks about how that was used to find siblings from the same father who was gynaecologist secretly inseminating woman with his own sperm rather than the wives partners sperm

Don't think you "own" them. More like they own a portion of your wealth.

I'm not aware of their contract provisions, but would have assumed privacy laws would protect you, unless there is a legal request that compels them to provide the information.

Just don't do DNA testing of any kind unless a court order. No ancestry.com/Insurance/medical this can be sold or illegal obtain. Forget about privcey law not must protection.

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just you not using any of the DNA DB services like ancestry.com.

The field of study is called Genetic Genealogy. It's about tracking down someone using the DNA of a close relative. Let's say you fathered a child in Makati 30 years ago, they have your DNA from him, but you haven't done ancestry.com or anything like that in your life. You're safe cos they can't identify you... Yet.

Alas, let's say your dear old brother goes and does ancestry.com and BAM, now they know that someone close to what they have on ancestry is probably the kid's father. If he was your only sibling.... Lord help you!

Here's an article about how they used this tech to solve some high-profile cold cases. It's quite impressive actually!

Yep any sort of DNA even by blood relatives can point the direction to you but how they exactly tie it altogether / confirm would be interesting

DNA sticks in the family so you alone can't control how your DNA isn't detected elsewhere. The only person you don't need to worry about in the first instance is your wife! - that'll come later, of course...

So they’re going to track you down and hold you accountable to which law exactly? What evidence other than your DNA? There are a lot of ways ladies can steal your cum (e.g from the dom) to get preggers. How would it even apply when you’re in another country haha

I 100% support the women and their kids.
It's a bit of a lottery though.
A DNA test reveals your dad is a doctor, or better still an electrician, or plumber. BINGO!
A DNA test reveals your dad is an Arts graduate with a HECS debt. FAIL!

Lol that won't hold up in court. You cant get child support if your a hooker from a client. Especially not internationally lol

Consider this, I don't think it will sit well for dad's who have found out they have international kids. Especially when they want to leave dirt behind in the past but as they say, time catches up.

After watching the programme last night its clear that even if they find the father they can't legally make him responsible either morally or financially.

But...

After seeing the conditions these kids are living in I found myself applauding Mr Potter for stepping up and helping his son Louis not only to finish school but helping him try get an NZ passport so he can travel to NZ to study and better his life. I have the utmost disdain for those two low life Aussie brothers who don't want to help their poor son out of the squalid living conditions or help him go through school.
I was happy to see that that lovely young 15 year old girl Maxine was able to graduate school because they managed to embarrass her father into paying child support for her. Poor thing is a ward of the state because her mother is an addict, at least there is an Aussie with a heart who finally stepped up to help. I hope they find more of them.

So has anyone watched the doco yet? I'm interested how they can pin it on the punter as well.

If they do manage to track them down, my guess is they can only use guilt into paying but not sure if there are any laws to use.

Years ago a thai ml was showing me photos (in Thailand) of her child back in Issan, she said she didn’t know who his dad was.
He was a full white british looking child looking like Prince William’s son, sitting there in a jungle village on the floor surrounded by thais. I guess he will grow up not knowing any difference but the image was burned into my mind.

Well who is to say it wasn't Charles son...or more likely Prince Andrew... If you guys want to dig into the rabbit hole further google the founder of DHL and his life in the Philippines. There is a doco on him.

Wonder if these kids have any claim on your assets in the event of your demise
Maybe time to visit an estate planner
I don't get it. You don't like the idea of your own flesh and blood getting a piece of your assets, even when you're dead and have no more use of it? Where did you manage to conjure up all that hate for someone you've probably never met?

I reckon they could potentially use custom records.

Eg if kid is 18, they pull out custom records on all foreigners during that time frame. Passport photos on record.

That's still a lot of data to filter through though, it would take forever to do that

One avenue is through Ancestry or 23andMe etc - and not necessarily from your direct DNA but via a family member or relative- they can link you in from there - that is how sone cold case criminals are tracked down. I’m in both of the above databases and I half expect to find I have a relative from
Borneo where my father was based during WWII - I know I have a relative from SA fathered by my grandfather when he was on a WWII work assignment at the Whyalla shipyards.
I guess DNA tells no lies.

They caught a serial killer in the USA a few years ago through one of these Ancestry sites.
The killings were way back in the 70s to 90s
It was a cold case but they finally got him through these Ancestry type websites.
I can't remember the exact details and too lazy to Google it now.
