Hey punters,
I only just found out that optus is offering a trial 7 day eSim (new number, 30gb data blah blah), and all you need to do is sign up with an email and have a valid ID.
Handy if you wanted a quick burner phone.
I've also created a new WeChat account with it so I can finally stop using my personal phone number (always worried if somehow someone finds me)

Hopefully this comes in handy for y'all!

Only optus, don't think any other providers offer a trial period like this.
Highly doubt you can use it internationally (roaming) as it's a trial

If you use an ID to register a number then technically it’s not a ‘burner’ — not 100% anonymous.

Was going to say the same thing. It would only be good if you could register it under a different name. Bring back the early days of prepaid!

Man I needed this a week ago. Signed up to telegram with my real number, didn't realise it would notify my contacts. Family member immediately messages.
App deleted just as fast lol

The only way I know to have a burner phone is to buy a SIM card when overseas, for example when in the Philippines where you don't give your ID, then use it in Australia and simply keep topping it up online.
The "Valid ID" puts me off...

I just found out that you can buy Esim on Agoda if you traveling to Asian countries, just saw $9.50 for 7 days unlimited data or $20 month. Why bother getting sim card at the airport arrival cost $30+. i will be heading to Thailand next week, can’t wait to honour my hardwork lol

No idea why others don't do it.
Beats waiting in line and getting scammed (over priced) sellers at the airport.
Only thing is with those "travelling eSim providers", you don't get a number and it's only data. But usually that's all you need ;) ;) - worked well when I went to Bali

Travel eSIM cards are for data only. Not a working phone number. Of course it can be used for apps like WhatsApp and Telegram—- but they’re not phone numbers people can call you on.

Does anyone actually need a phone number now? Only reason I have one is for 2fa. Otherwise wats app, wechat, fb among many others allow phone calls and vid calls.

.. but do you need internet access (wifi or data usage) for that ?

well, who wants to use the phone call these days? unless you an important person. When you on vacation forget Australia. why don’t use whatsapp or email without the phone call. There is a service where you can pay $5per day (if you with voda) for international roaming so you can activate your Oz number while overseas.

We are talking about a data only sim.. So that provides internet access mate.
