Anyone been done recently as in scammed?

I was done yesterday. Replied to a Locanto ad, girl seemed legit, photos etc looked ok.

She said it was her and a couple of others working out of a 3 bedroom apartment in Mascot with a “boss man”. The “boss man” should have set off alarm bells but I didn’t think too much about it at the time.

Arrived at the apartment block in Mascot (big modern apartment block with lots of different blocks) and messaged whoever was on the other end. Message came back that the “boss man” will come and get you. A tattooed Lebanese guy rocks up and we walk towards one of the blocks. Stupidly, I gave him the $200 and then he directs me to Block C Number 618. He does a u-turn and heads in the opposite direction. I enter code 618 and of course it comes up with “error”. Try again and “error” at which point I realise I have been scammed!

The Lebanese guy of course was nowhere to be seen and even if he had been I wouldn’t have approached him because he looked like the type that would be trouble.

The Locanto person was Omz348186

Beware!

Sorry to hear that too.
If that is of any consolation, I reckon i would have been scammed too, thinking I'm paying the papasan the monies, instead of the WL.
A good lesson is that , unless you are familiar with the process, when dealing with privates , you have to pay directly to the WL.

Lesson #1: Don't pay until you've seen the product

Lesson #2: if it's not an established shop, never pay a 3rd person

But thanks for the AR. Serves as a refresher to ALL to NOT be complacent.

Wechat/Lime/Locanto = very high risk of getting scam. there are few legit, but most would be scam. Probably 8 out of 10 would be a scam.

How do you decide whether to italicise, underline, use bold, USE A BIGGER FONT or a combination? Are there intricacies that I will never understand?

you can probably report this to the police. It wouldn't matter so much if you are single, probably harder to do if you have a partner/family

Thanks for the tip. Lesson learnt and one reason why shops are just less risk overall. Private always sound top shelf until you arrive and suddenly it is Temu time.

Consider it the use of non-verbal tones to emphasize a point. The command voice in typography.

*italics: metaphor
*underline: little oomph to the word/phrase
*bold: raised voice
*size: command voice

Clear? CLEAR!

I asked how I would recognise the “boss man” and got “he’s Lebanese, black beard and black hoody”

Interesting, thanks Professor. So are you commanding that clear is the right answer, raising your voice and putting in a little oomph all that the same time? seems excessive.

I did, but I don't think it's something to laugh about. I personally think that those tactics by Mossad are extremely irresponsible and really surprised no one has called them out for it. Imagine what would happen if those devices exploded in a servo with lots of kids and women around? And how would they know who's holding the device at the time of detonation? It could be a kid!

It really shows their complete disregard for any other form of life other than their own kind.

True, I can respect that view point, or any other. After all, this is not a political forum and thank god for that.

And then pay for a lawyer when you go to court on assault, robbery, etc. charges, and while in prison, prepare a new resume as you've lost your job due to the incarceration. Hopefully, some company in your field will hire a felon. Maybe. Geesh.

To communicate via a pager you send them a page and the problem with posting double entendre is that you may or may not be on the same page.

Its amazing how many want to be gangsters until theres gangster shit to be done. Most will crumble with a threat. If they were any good they wouldnt be scamming for a couple hundred bucks

Who are you referring to, the original scammer or the pay-backers?

Like the old saying goes, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time". Plus the ole "Two wrongs don't make a right". That vigilante justice makes for good TV, but in real life, LE, courts, all they see is A crime, assault and battery, premeditated... And check the legal definition of assault, doesn't have to be physical contact, merely the fear of physical harm. I'm first to admit I don't have any experience with OZ law, but methinks that obtaining money by false pretense is viewed a lot less severely than physical, or the threat of, physical violence. Perhaps misdemeanor vs felony?

For me, the OP took the appropriate action: posted a warning here. I'd just take it as an expensive lesson learned. No need to compound the mistake.
