Cheongsams have got to be the world's most elegant, attractive and exotic dresses. Their lines are just so graceful - the curves, the colour and that little bit of assymetry

I saw a beautiful girl wearing one in chinatown the other day and my jaw hung slack at the sight of her. It was like she'd just stepped out of a delicate tapestry or a silk wall hanging.

Wouldn't it be great if the shop girls used their culture more by wearing either full cheongsams (I certainly wouldn't mind taking one off slowly) or some bedroom inspired designs based on them. Instead all we get is westie lingerie shop outfits. (Yes, I mean westie, not western.)

The girls already look exotic, wouldn't you just love them walking into the room looking like this. I'd even bring a little gong to sound as they came in! he he..

To me, they just do not work.

It makes the dresses look superficial, and it makes the western women look like try hards. There is no cultural context, no history, and therefore none of the grace that makes the dresses look so gorgeous on Asian girls and women. This might be a bit of an exaggeration, but to me a western woman playing dress ups in a cheongsam looks like a pair of McDonald's arches stuck on the Imperial Palace. Do you see what I mean?
